  1. 1. In vitro and in vivo studies on the toxicology of di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) : Effects on reproductive, endocrine, and immune systems

    Författare :Liselott Källsten; Oskar Karlsson; Paula Pierozan; Jonathan W. Martin; Jorma Toppari; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dibutyl phthalate; Endocrine disrupting chemicals; Male reproductive health; Phthalates; Immunotoxicity; Toxicology; Steroidogenesis; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Chemical pollution is an increasing societal problem and has a major impact on human and environmental health. One important source of chemical pollution is plastic, which contains many different compounds with often largely unknown hazards. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sagali and the Kula : A Regional Systems Analysis of the Massim

    Författare :Johnny Persson; Socialantropologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; political organization; exchange systems; structural transformations; reproductive models; regional analysis; kula; Trobriands; Massim; Melanesia; Papua New Guinea; Cultural anthropology; ethnology; Kulturantropologi; etnologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with developing a consistent regional perspective on the Massim peoples of southeastern Papua New Guinea, a task largely neglected by earlier anthropological studies, it is claimed, or, when sometimes attempted, unsuccessfully accomplished for a number of reasons, both methodological and theoretical. The author uses a comparative approach for investigating a selection of Massim societies. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Evolution of Reproductive Systems in Neurospora

    Författare :Rebecka Strandberg; Hanna Johannesson; Paul Dyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurospora; mating type; pheromone receptor; phylogeny; gene expression; heterothallism; homothallism; pseudohomothallism; alternative splicing; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study the evolution of reproductive systems and reproductive traits in the fungal genus Neurospora. More specifically, I have investigated the evolutionary forces shaping the genes involved in sexual reproduction, focusing on mating-type (mat) and pheromone receptor (pre) genes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Evolutionary Consequences of Reproductive Strategies : Testing Theory on Sex and Reproductive Gene Evolution in the Fungal Model Neurospora

    Författare :Kristiina Nygren; Hanna Johannesson; Tatiana Giraud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I used the filamentous ascomycete genus Neurospora as a model to test theoretical predictions on the evolutionary consequences of different reproductive strategies and reproductive gene evolution. The genus Neurospora contains taxa representing a diversity of reproductive strategies, and here I constructed a phylogeny by which I was able to show that several independent transitions in reproductive mode have occurred in the evolutionary history of the genus. 5. 5. Genetic factors affecting pregnancy duration in humans

    Författare :Jonas Bacelis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genomics; GWAS; Mendelian randomization; causal inference; preterm birth; pregnancy; gestation; height; text mining;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the mechanisms behind human pregnancy duration. Too short gestation is a direct cause of perinatal, neonatal, and infant mortality. Deviation from normal pregnancy length is also associated with a child's morbidity, even in the adulthood. LÄS MER
