  1. 21. Melt convection in welding and crystal growth

    Författare :Minh Do-Quang; Gustav Amberg; Andreas Ludwig; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; thermocapillary convection; gas-tungsten arc welding; floating zone; parallel computing; finite element method; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : A parallel finite element code with adaptive meshing was developed and used to study three dimensional, time-dependent fluid flows caused by thermocapillary convection as well as temperature and dopant distribution in fusion welding and floating zone crystal growth. A comprehensive numerical model of the three dimensional time-dependent fluid flows in a weld pool had been developed. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Assessment of Graft Effects and Function in Cell Replacement Therapy for Parkinson's Disease

    Författare :Peter Hagell; Äldres hälsa och personcentrerad vård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; measurement; psychometrics; perceived health; dyskinesias; assessment; striatum; positron emission tomography; dopamine; Parkinson s disease; transplantation;

    Sammanfattning : This explorative study aimed to apply, develop, and evaluate assessment methods at various levels in cell replacement therapy for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Observed motor effects in five grafted patients support that timed motor tasks and clinical ratings of parkinsonism are able to monitor motor function, but their psychometric properties need further attention. 3. 23. Remote Sensing of Urbanization and Environmental Impacts

    Författare :Jan Haas; Yifang Ban; Costas Cartalis; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Remote Sensing; Urbanization; Land Use Land Cover LULC ; Environmental Impact; Landscape Metrics; Ecosystem Services; Geodesy and Geoinformatics; Geodesi och geoinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to establish analytical frameworks to map urban growth patterns with spaceborne remote sensing data and to evaluate environmental impacts through Landscape Metrics and Ecosystem Services. Urbanization patterns at regional scale were evaluated in China's largest urban agglomerations and at metropolitan scale in Shanghai, Stockholm and Beijing using medium resolution optical satellite data. 4. 24. Syntheses, structure determination, magnetic and thermoelectric properties of quasicrystal approximants in RE-Au-SM systems (RE = Gd, Tb and Yb and SM = Si, Ge)

    Författare :Girma Hailu Gebresenbut; Cesar Gomez; Martin Sahlberg; Torbjörn Gustafsson; Lars Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quasicrystals; quasicrystal approximants; thermoelectric properties; magnetic properties; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Sammanfattning : In this study, new compositions of Tsai-type 1/1 quasicrystal approximants Gd(14)Au(70)Si(16), Gd(14)Au(67)Ge(19), Tb(14)Au(70)Si(16) and Yb(16)Au(65)Ge(19)are synthesized using both self-flux and arc-melting-annealing techniques. Both syntheses routes resulted single phase samples. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Application of Padlock Probe Based Nucleic Acid Analysis In Situ

    Författare :Sara Henriksson; Mats Nilsson; Ulf Landegren; Harvest Gu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Padlock probe; rolling circle amplification; single cell gel electrophoresis assay; comet assay; Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever virus; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The great variation displayed by nucleic acid molecules in human cells, and the continuous discovery of their impact on life, consequently require continuous refinements of molecular analysis techniques. Padlock probes and rolling circle amplification offer single nucleotide discrimination in situ, a high signal-to-noise ratio and localized detection within cells and tissues. LÄS MER
