21. Variance reduction methods for numerical solution of plasma kinetic diffusion
Sammanfattning : Performing detailed simulations of plasma kinetic diffusion is a challenging task and currently requires the largest computational facilities in the world. The reason for this is that, the physics in a confined heated plasma occur on a broad range of temporal and spatial scales. LÄS MER
22. Electrochemical Deposition of Nanostructured Metal/Metal-Oxide Coatings
Sammanfattning : Electrochemical deposition finds applications in the electronics- and protective coating industries. The technique is a versatile tool for the synthesis of alloys and thin films. Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the electrode processes enables the design of nanostructured materials. LÄS MER
23. Theoretical studies of blue copper proteins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a critical investigation is presented about the role of mechanical strain for the electron-transfer properties of the blue copper proteins. It has been found that the structure of a realistic model complex of the oxidised blue-copper active site, optimised in vacuum with the B3LYP method, has the same trigonal cupric geometry as in the protein. 24. Therapeutic potential of extracellular vesicles
Sammanfattning : Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nanometer-sized, lipid membrane enclosed, vesicles that are secreted by most, if not all, cells and contain macromolecular material of the source cell including lipids, proteins and various nucleic acid species. Over the last two decades, EVs have been recognized as important mediators of cell-to-cell communication that influence both physiological and pathological conditions. LÄS MER
25. Managing Urban Disaster Risk: Analysis and Adaptation Frameworks for Integrated Settlement Development Programming for the Urban Poor
Sammanfattning : The damage caused by the dramatic worldwide increase in ‘natural’ disasters is staggering, with the poor in developing countries being most at risk. Disasters make their already precarious living conditions worse, creating a vicious circle of poverty from which they find it hard to escape. LÄS MER
