  1. 1. Modification of fluff pulp fibres: Cross-linking and alkali extraction

    Författare :Kristoffer Lund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fibre network; dry defibration; network strength; fluff pulp; Absorption; cross-linking; alkali extraction; kraft pulp;

    Sammanfattning : Fluff pulp has been one of the key components of hygienic products, such as diapers, for many years. Fluff pulp is dry defibrated and air-laid into the absorption core of diapers. The introduction of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) in the 1980s decreased the dependence on fluff pulp, as the SAPs became the main absorbing material. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dissolution of cellulose for textile fibre applications

    Författare :Martin Kihlman; Ulf Germgård; Mats Westin; Lars Stigsson; Stefan Backa; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkaline aqueous solvent systems; cellulose; dissolution; dissolving pulp; kraft pulp; pretreatment; pulp characterization; sulfite pulp; textile fibres; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis forms part of a project with the objective of developing and implementing a novel, wood-based, process for the industrial production of cellulose textile fibres. This new process should not only be cost effective but also have far less environmental impact then current processes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanical Pulp-Based Nanocellulose : Processing and applications relating to paper and paperboard, composite films, and foams

    Författare :Sinke Henshaw Osong; Per Engstrand; Sven Norgren; Mark Martinez; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mechanical pulp; thermo-mechanical pulp; chemi-thermomechanical pulp; fractionation; fines; homogenisation; nanocellulose; nano-ligno-cellulose; microfibrillated cellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose; paper; strength properties; crill; TEMPO; nanographite NG ; composite films;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with processing of nanocellulose originating from pulps, with focus on mechanical pulp fibres and fines fractions. The nanocellulose materials produced within this research project were tested for different purposes ranging from strength additives in paper and paperboard products, via composite films to foam materials. 4. 4. Strength Properties of Paper produced from Softwood Kraft Pulp : Pulp Mixture, Reinforcement and Sheet Stratification

    Författare :Hanna Karlsson; Luciano Beghello; Lars Nilsson; Lennart Stolpe; Öyvind Gregersen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; paper strength; tensile strength; tearing resistance; folding endurance; fracture toughness; handsheet former; stratify; multilayer; multiply; reinforcement; refining; beating; abaca; glass fibre; polyester; lyocell; softwood; bond strength; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : For paper producers, an understanding of the development of strength properties in the paper is of uttermost importance. Strong papers are important operators both in the traditional paper industry as well as in new fields of application, such as fibre-based packaging, furniture and light-weight building material. 5. 5. Chemical Modification of Cellulose Fibres and Fibrils for Design of New Materials

    Författare :Verónica López Durán; Lars Wågberg; Per A. Larsson; Akira Isogai; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; borohydride reduction; cellulose-based materials; chemical modification; chlorite oxidation; fibres; fibrils; periodate oxidation; TEMPO oxidation; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the growing interest in biobased materials in today’s society, where the need for a cyclic economy is obvious, there has been a huge increase in the  interest for using cellulose due to its excellent mechanical and chemical properties. However, the properties of cellulose have to be modified and improved in order to satisfy advanced material applications where the cellulose properties can be tuned to fit the properties of other components in composite mixtures.
