  1. 1. Tailing Charges on New Paths : Ultrafast intramolecular charge transfer in chromophores

    Författare :Belinda Pettersson Rimgard; Leif Hammarström; Oliver S. Wenger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intramolecular charge transfer; interligand electron transfer; electron transfer; proton transfer; concerted electron-proton transfer; Marcus inverted region; solvent; temperature; femtosecond spectroscopy; proton-coupled energy transfer; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : By tailing charges on their paths within a molecule, one can gain fundamental knowledge of their inherent reactivity. The charges, originally residing in their lowest energy configuration, can upon light absorption move across the system, or transfer in between them. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Regulation of Proton Coupled Electron Transfer from Amino Acids in Artificial Model Systems: A Mechanistic Study

    Författare :Martin Sjödin; Leif Hammarström; Jan Davidsson; G. Daniel Nocera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Proton Coupled Electron Transfer; Tyrosine; Tryptophan; Electron Transfer; Hydrogen bond; Photosystem II; Proton transfer; Radical protein; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Amino acid radicals are key redox intermediates in several natural enzymes including Cytochrome c peroxidase, DNA photolyase, ribonucletide reductase, cytochrome c oxidase and photosystem II. Electron transfer from amino acids is often coupled to deprotonation and this thesis concerns the coupling of electron transfer from tyrosine and tryptophan to trisbipyridineruthenium(III) with deprotonation in model complexes. 3. 3. Deciphering the Mechanistic Diversity of Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer Reactions

    Författare :Robin Tyburski; Leif Hammarström; Thomas Moore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCET; Proton Coupled Electron Transfer;

    Sammanfattning : Proton coupled electron transfer is ubiquitous in biological and artificial reaction systems. Much has been done in order to describe the occurrence of such reactions. However, PCET reactivity is often very complex. For instance, there are multiple (stepwise and concerted) mechanistic pathways through which PCET may occur. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of proton-coupled electron transfer in cytochrome c oxidase : The role of membrane potential, proton pathways and ATP

    Författare :Markus Björck; Peter Brzezinski; Thorsten Friedrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; charge transfer; membrane potential; membrane protein; mitochondria; ATP; proton pump; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase (CytcO) is the final electron acceptor of the respiratory chain. In this chain a current of electrons, derived from degradation of nutrients, along with protons, are used to reduce oxygen to water. The reaction is exergonic and the excess energy is used to pump protons across the membrane. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Synthesis of Biomimetic Systems for Proton and Electron Transfer Reactions in the Ground and Excited State

    Författare :Giovanny A. Parada; Sascha Ott; Ana Moore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solar energy conversion; artificial photosynthesis; hydrogen bonds; excited state intramolecular proton transfer; tautomerization; proton-coupled electron transfer; photosensitizer; ruthenium complex.; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : A detailed understanding of natural photosynthesis provides inspiration for the development of sustainable and renewable energy sources, i.e. a technology that is capable of converting solar energy directly into chemical fuels. This concept is called artificial photosynthesis. LÄS MER
