1. Preparation of Pharmaceutical Powders using Supercritical Fluid Technology : Pharmaceutical Applications and Physicochemical Characterisation of Powders
Sammanfattning : The main aim of the thesis was to explore the potential of supercritical fluid (SF) techniques in the field of drug delivery. In particular, the relatively recently developed solution-enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS) technology has been employed in the preparation of particles/powders. LÄS MER
2. Compression analysis as a tool for technical characterization and classification of pharmaceutical powders
Sammanfattning : There are today strong incentives for an increased understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes to facilitate the development of new technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. The purpose of this thesis was to suggest methods requiring a low sample amount for characterization of technical properties of powders. LÄS MER
3. Terahertz sensing for pharmaceutical applications
Sammanfattning : Pharmaceutical tablets are manufactured through the compaction of powder blends or granules in batch or continuous processes. In continuous manufacturing, real-time assurance of quality becomes essential to ensure that the final product meets the quality standards approved by manufacturers and regulatory authorities. 4. Process-induced disorder of pharmaceutical materials : Mechanisms and quantification of disorder
Sammanfattning : One of the most important prerequisites in the drug development is to attain a reproducible and robust product in terms of its nature, and its chemical and physical properties. This can be challenging, since the crystalline form of drugs and excipients can be directly transformed into the amorphous one during normal pharmaceutical processing, referred to as process-induced amorphisation or process-induced disorder. 5. Solid state characterisation and compaction behaviour of pharmaceutical materials
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, factors important in tableting operations and for tablet properties have been studied and characterised by different spectroscopic techniques as well as by some more conventionally used particle characterisation techniques. The spectroscopic techniques solid-state NMR, FT-IR and NIR spectroscopy, proved to be valuable tools in the estimation of particle and tablet properties, offering both specificity and sensitivity in the measurements.
