Sammanfattning : This thesis studies how mínzú (ethnic) agency is effectuated through propaganda literature among Muslim minority cadres in the Yānqí Huí Autonomous County of the Xīnjiāng Uyghur Autonomous Region of North-West China in the 2010s. The aim is to understand to what extent and in what ways mínzú identification can have a socio-politically significant impact on the activities of mínzú cadres in a restrictive environment and in a medium where mínzú agency is controversial and difficult to implement. Sammanfattning : This dissertation explains the transition - the change of political system from a one-party state to a multi-party system - in Hungary as the result of a generation change, where different generations with different historical experiences either lost or gained political capital. 5. Chinese women and consumer culture : discourses on beauty and identity in advertising and women's magazines 1985-1995
Sammanfattning : Chinese women and consumer culture are studied through semiotics and discourse analysis of advertisements and beauty editorials from women's magazines. The trajectory of Chinese consumption and advertising development during the last two decades is outlined and the changing notions of female beauty after Mao is examined, describing the resurfacing gender differences and the renewed importance of body and gender, together with the commodification of women and female beauty.
