21. Membrane interactions of glycosyltransferases
Sammanfattning : Many important biological processes occur near or in membranes. The role of membranes is not merely confined to compartmentalization, they also form the matrix for membrane associated proteins and are of functional importance. Membrane associated proteins on the other hand require specific membrane properties for proper function. LÄS MER
22. The Utility of Manganese for Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Transient Myocardial Ischemia
Sammanfattning : In order to improve the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, better methods for detection of myocardial perfusion defects would be useful. One of the methods used for myocardial perfusion evaluation today is magnetic resonance imaging. LÄS MER
23. Evaluation of the Dual-Modal usage of contrast agents by means of Synchrotron X-ray Computed Microtomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging using Macrophages loaded with Barium Sulfate and Gadolinium Nanoparticles for Detection and Monitoring in Animal Disease Models
Sammanfattning : ¨This thesis focuses on evaluating the dual-modal Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) capabilities of contrast agents. For such purposes a gadolinium based contrast agent is of high interest, due to its paramagnetic properties, which while present inside a magnetic field will hence interact with the protons spins of water (in tissue and fat) and shorten their the T1 relaxation time, thereby creating a positive image contrast in MRI. 24. Growth and Magnetic Properties of Fe- and FeNi-based Thin Films and Multilayers
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the growth and magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. The samples were grown by magnetron sputtering, and characterized structurally mainly by x-ray diffraction and reflectivity. LÄS MER
25. Metal Oxide Nanoparticles for Contrast Enhancement in Magnetic Resonance Imaging : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization
Sammanfattning : This thesis work focuses on the design and production of nanoparticle based contrast agents for signal enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Three different synthesis routes are explored, primarily to produce crystalline gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanoparticles, and surface modification is done to obtain stable, dispersible, biocompatible probes inducing high proton relaxivities.
