  1. 1. Skin fibrosis, internal organ involvement and auto antibodies in systemic sclerosis: longitudinal development and impact on survival

    Författare :Roger Hesselstrand; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Skeleton; proteoglycan; pulmonary hypertension; organ involvement; auto antibodies; survival; systemic sclerosis; prognosis;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease with a highly variable prognosis. Since new treatment strategies are emerging, there is a need for prognostic markers in order to help allocate patients to the optimal treatment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Shining a light on organ donation after death : on various aspects influencing organ donation

    Författare :Linda Gyllström Krekula; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The willingness to donate organs after death is widespread in our country, Sweden. Nevertheless, the donation rate is rather low and patients still die while waiting for an organ. One of the obstacles to organ donation is that people tend not to tell anyone about their decision. 3. 3. Evaluation and treatment of pelvic organ prolapse : clinical, radiological and histopathological aspects

    Författare :Daniel Altman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bowel function; Cystodefecoperitoneography; Histology; Pelvic organ prolapse. Rectal prolapse; Rectocele; Safety; Xenograft;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To assess the use of cystodefecoperitoneography (CDP) in clinical and radiological diagnosis of cystocele; to study the correlation between clinical and radiological findings at CDP and to evaluate if anatomical topography and structural abnormality corresponds to symptomatic presentation when assessing posterior vaginal wall prolapse; to evaluate if xenograft used at rectocele repair was associated with adverse clinical and histological inflammatory reactions; to prospectively examine if rectocele repair using xenograft is a safe method providing satisfactory clinical and symptomatical outcome; and to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of genital prolapse and urinary incontinence in female patients operated for rectal prolapse. Methods: The following methods were used: The Pelvic organ prolapse quantification system (POPQ), CDP, bowel function questionnaires, pelvic floor surveys, histological, histopathological and clinical inflammatory quantification. 4. 4. Involvement of vasopressin and oxytocin in the regulation of human uterine activity

    Författare :Margareta Steinwall; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; uterine activity; oxytocin mRNA; EP2 agonist; receptors; antagonists; oxytocin; vasopressin; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Vasopressin and oxytocin seem to have pivotal roles in the pathophysiology of primary dysmenorrhoea and preterm labour. Prostaglandins are also involved in the regulation of uterine activity with different receptors mediating both stimulation and relaxation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulation of Apoptosis in Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells: Involvement of Different Signaling Pathways

    Författare :Maria Kraft; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokines; apoptosis; cell cycle; c-Kit; Flt3; Flt3-ITD; Akt; Bcl-2; FoxO3; mouse; hematopoiesis; progenitor;

    Sammanfattning : Proliferation, differentiation, and survival of hematopoietic stem cells and multipotent progenitor cells are regulated by cytokines and cell-cell interactions. Kit ligand (KL) and Flt3 ligand (FL) have pleiotropic effects, promotes survival, but are nonredundant. LÄS MER
