  1. 1. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Författare :Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 2. Experimental studies on xenograft rejection

    Författare :Guosheng Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The use of animal organs and tissues may provide a solution to the severe and worsening shortage of human grafts. The aims of the present experimental studies were to provide a better understanding of the rejection mechanisms and give new clues for prevention of xenorejection, thereby hopefully contributing to the development of clinical xenotransplantation. 3. 3. Induction of operational tolerance to allografts and xenografts

    Författare :Matthias Corbascio; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; allograft; xenograft; heart transplantation; tolerance; anti-LFA-1; CTLA4Ig; anti-CD40L;

    Sammanfattning : Inhibition of the costimulatory molecules B7 and CD40L with CTLA4Ig and anti-CD40L administered only during the first week after transplantation induces indefinite survival of allo- and xenogeneic heart transplants and significantly prolongs skin grafts in C3H mice. However, this treatment protocol is not as effective in C57BL/6 mice which reject skin transplants with nearly the same median survival time as untreated controls. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Peripheral nerve reconstruction. Studies on cellular and acellular iso-, allo- and xenografts

    Författare :Martin Kvist; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acellular nerve graft; costimulation blockade; FK506; immunosuppression; nerve graft; nerve defect; nerve regeneration; nerve injury; nerve extraction; allograft; xenograft;

    Sammanfattning : The best results after a nerve injury with a defect are achieved by a nerve reconstruction procedure using autologous nerve grafts. However, limitations include insufficient amount of suitable donor material and donor site morbidity. The aim of the present thesis was to study alternative nerve grafts, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Discordant Neural Xenografting: Analysis and Modulation of Immune Responses

    Författare :Lena Cecilia Larsson; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; immunosuppression; immunology; xenograft; pig; Parkinson s disease; intracerebral transplantation;

    Sammanfattning : Transplantation of embryonic human neural tissue can restore function in patients with Parkinson’s disease, but there is a severe shortage of donor tissue which limits the applicability of the technique. Embryonic neural tissue from other species, xenogeneic tissue, would provide a readily accessible donor tissue with the potential to help patients if the immunological reactions in the host could be prevented.
