  1. 1. Peripheral nerve reconstruction. Studies on cellular and acellular iso-, allo- and xenografts

    Författare :Martin Kvist; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acellular nerve graft; costimulation blockade; FK506; immunosuppression; nerve graft; nerve defect; nerve regeneration; nerve injury; nerve extraction; allograft; xenograft;

    Sammanfattning : The best results after a nerve injury with a defect are achieved by a nerve reconstruction procedure using autologous nerve grafts. However, limitations include insufficient amount of suitable donor material and donor site morbidity. The aim of the present thesis was to study alternative nerve grafts, i.e. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cell activation and nerve regeneration following peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :Annika Widerberg; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; nerve regeneration; Nerve injury; conditioning lesion; nerve graft; tourniquet compression; vibration; DRG; Schwann cell; p75; CPON; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of short time vibration exposure and tourniquet compression on nerve regeneration in rats was studied with special reference to cell activation. One of the hindlimbs was conditioned by either vibration exposure (5 hours / day - 5 consecutive days) or compression (150-300 mmHg for 30-120 minutes), which was followed by a recovery period of 0-7 days. 3. 3. Development of biosynthetic conduits for peripheral nerve repair

    Författare :Aleksandra McGrath; Liudmila N Novikova; John Haycock; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biosynthetic conduit; Mesenchymal stem cells; Nerve graft; Nerve tissue engineering; Peripheral nerve injury; Schwann cells;

    Sammanfattning : Peripheral nerve injuries are often associated with significant loss of nervous tissue leading to poor restoration of function following repair of injured nerves. Although the injury gap could be bridged by autologous nerve graft, the limited access to donor material and additional morbidity such as loss of sensation and scarring have prompted a search for biosynthetic nerve transplants. 4. 4. Tendon autografts for bridging nerve defects

    Författare :Jerker Brandt; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; cell culture; graft; rat; collagen; tendon; Schwann cells; axons; Peripheral nerve regeneration; axonal outgrowth; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : A new method, where a tendon segment – a tendon autograft – was used as graft material for peripheral nerve reconstruction, was developed. Defects, 10-15 mm long, in rat sciatic nerves were bridged by various modifications of tendons. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Advances in the Management of Facial Paralysis Sequelae

    Författare :Villiam Vejbrink Kildal; Andres Rodriguez-Lorenzo; Patrik Lassus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; facial paralysis; facial palsy; facial synkinesis; synkinesis; facial contracture; facial nerve reconstruction; nerve transfer; nerve graft; microsurgery; myectomy; depressor anguli oris; depressor labii inferioris; platysma; mentalis; lacrimal gland; botulinum toxin; injection; ultrasound; sonography; ultrasonography; crocodile tears syndrome; gustatory hyperlacrimation; excessive tearing; literature review; review; classification system; management algorithm; plastic surgery; static reconstruction; dynamic reconstruction; Plastikkirurgi; Plastic Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Despite advances in the management of facial paralysis and its associated sequelae, therapies targeting the lower facial region remain underdeveloped. This thesis aimed to improve both the diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for facial paralysis, with a focus on the lower face. LÄS MER
