7. On the Control of Nematic Liquid Crystal Alignment
Sammanfattning : Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are incorporated in a great variety of electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phones, TV sets, etc. The performance of LCDs depends strongly on the alignment of liquid crystal and therefore the reliable control of the alignment parameters, such as pretilt and anchoring strength, is of vital importance for the LCD industry. 8. Robust Platforms for Superconductivity : Disorder Robustness and Topological Density of States Peaks
Sammanfattning : We explore the connection between robust material platforms for superconductivity and the modern condensed matter physics paradigms of two-dimensional materials, topological states of matter, and odd-frequency superconductivity. Specifically, the recent discoveries of gapless topological matter and truly two-dimensional materials with graphene have greatly expanded the class of materials for which topology produces large, robust, even singular, density of states (DOS) peaks in the electronic structure that in turn are highly susceptible to new ordered states of matter, including superconductivity. 9. Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators for Laser Beam Steering
Sammanfattning : Laser beam control is important in many applications. Phase modulating spatial light modulators (SLMs) can be used to electronically alter the phase distribution of an optical wave-front and thus change the direction and shape of a laser beam. LÄS MER
10. Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo Studies of Biomolecular Solutions and Amphiphilic Liquid Crystals
Sammanfattning : Biomolecular solutions and amphiphilic liquid crystals are studied by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Dispersion (NMRD) and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo (PGSE) respectively. A random-flight simulation is performed to obtain the obstructing factors for self-diffusion of small molecules in macrofluids. LÄS MER
