  1. 1. Modeling and Control of EGR on Marine Two-Stroke Diesel Engines

    Författare :Xavier Llamas; Lars Eriksson; Gerasimos Theotokatos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Modeling for control; Ship Propulsion; Dynamic Simulation; Exhaust Gas Recirculation; Mean Value Engine Model; Parameterization; Compressor; Model Extrapolation;

    Sammanfattning : The international marine shipping industry is responsible for the transport of around 90% of the total world trade. Low-speed two-stroke diesel engines usually propel the largest trading ships. This engine type choice is mainly motivated by its high fuel efficiency and the capacity to burn cheap low-quality fuels. 2. 2. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control

    Författare :Isak Nielsen; Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Eric Kerrigan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical Optimal Control; Model Predictive Control; Riccati Recursion; Parallel Algorithms; Low-Rank Modifications; Parametric Programming; Optimization; Explicit MPC; Moving Horizon Estimation; Partial Condensing;

    Sammanfattning : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem. 3. 3. Essays on Time Series Analysis : With Applications to Financial Econometrics

    Författare :Daniel Preve; Rolf Larsson; Bent Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-Gaussian time series; nonnegative autoregression; robust estimation; strong convergence; realized volatility; volatility forecast; forecast comparison; Diebold-Mariano test; Statistics; Statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is comprised of four papers that all relate to the subject of Time Series Analysis.The first paper of the thesis considers point estimation in a nonnegative, hence non-Gaussian, AR(1) model. The parameter estimation is carried out using a type of extreme value estimators (EVEs). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring the Effects of ICT on Environmental Sustainability: From Life Cycle Assessment to Complex Systems Modeling

    Sammanfattning : The production and consumption of information and communication technology (ICT) products and services continue to grow worldwide. This trend is accompanied by a corresponding increase in electricity use by ICT, as well as direct environmental impacts of the technology. Yet a more complicated picture of ICT’s effects is emerging. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Bayesian Models for Multilingual Word Alignment

    Författare :Robert Östling; Mats Wirén; Ola Knutsson; Jörg Tiedemann; Sharon Goldwater; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; word alignment; parallel text; Bayesian models; MCMC; linguistic typology; sign language; annotation transfer; transfer learning; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore Bayesian models for word alignment, how they can be improved through joint annotation transfer, and how they can be extended to parallel texts in more than two languages. In addition to these general methodological developments, I apply the algorithms to problems from sign language research and linguistic typology. LÄS MER
