21. Field and pilot-scale geochemical investigations into using sewage sludge for sulphidic mine waste remediation
Sammanfattning : Successful mine waste reclamation is a fundamental aspect in mine plan development and is legislated through the European Parliament’s ‘Management of Waste from Extractive Industries Directive (2006/21/EC)’. Field and pilot-scale trials were utilised to evaluate different applications of an alternative cover material, sewage sludge, in its ability to remediate and prevent acid rock drainage formation from sulphidic mine tailings derived from the Kristineberg Zn-Cu mine, northern Sweden. 22. Geochemical Landscape Analysis for the Risk Assessment of Acid Mine Drainage in a Wetland Environment
Sammanfattning : Attenuation of acid mine drainage (AMD) metals originating from abandoned mines and waste rock dumps is investigated in this thesis at Slättberg in central Sweden, where acid mine leachate has been discharging for over 70 years into the receiving wetland stream and mire. Risk assessment of AMD and related polluted lands requires a holistic approach that is able to study the complexity of pollution emissions and impacted landscapes. LÄS MER
23. Stable and radiogenic isotopes as tracers for geochemical processes in mineralogically-complex mine waste environments : Insights from 13C, 2H, 18O, 34S and 87Sr/86Sr
Sammanfattning : Mining and its related activities generate large volumes of mine wastes such as tailings that can have negative environmental implications. One of such mine wastes of potential environmental concern is the historical Yxsjöberg Cu-W-F skarn tailings in Sweden, which encompasses a complex mineralogy including sulphides, carbonates, silicates, oxides / wolframite and halides. 24. Sulphide oxidation and geochemical processes in mine tailings
Sammanfattning : The generation of acid mine drainage (AMD) from oxidation of sulphide- bearing waste is a world wide problem, due to low pH levels and the release of metals to recipients. It is therefore important to understand the fundamental geochemical processes occurring in mine waste. LÄS MER
25. Influence of hydrochemical parameters on the mobility and redistribution of metals from a mine waste deposit
Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis has been to combine theoretical and empirical methods to describe chemical attenuation of trace metals (i.e. Al, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn) in a polluted watershed. It was possible to elucidate the major mechanisms by using the naturalvariations of chemical composition of the system. LÄS MER
