1. Prevention of Postoperative Duodenal Ileus by COX-2 Inhibition Improves Duodenal Function in Anaesthetised Rats
Sammanfattning : Abdominal surgery inhibits gastrointestinal motility, a phenomenon referred to as postoperative ileus. Since the postoperative ileus disturbs duodenal physiology it is important to minimize the side effects of this condition. LÄS MER
2. Regulation of Duodenal Mucosal Barrier Function and Motility : The Impact of Melatonin
Sammanfattning : The duodenal mucosa is regularly exposed to acid, digestive enzymes and ingested noxious agents. It is thus critical to maintain a protective barrier to prevent the development of mucosal injury and inflammation, which are often observed in situations when barrier function is impaired. LÄS MER
3. Effects of nicotine on mesolimbocortical dopaminergic neurotransmission : a pharmacological study in the rat
Sammanfattning : Tobacco-smoking represents a form of drug addiction to nicotine (NlC) and the reinforcing and dependence-producing properties of NIC depend largely on central dopamine (DA) neurons, located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and projecting mainly to the nucleus accumbens (NAc; mesolimbic DA system) and the medial prefrontal cortex (PFC; mesocortical DA system). Generally, the mesolimbic DA system plays a pivotal role in the reinforcing effects of natural rewards as well as of drugs of abuse. LÄS MER
4. Neurobiological basis of the nicotine withdrawal reaction : an experimental analysis
Sammanfattning : The mesolimbocortical dopamine (DA) system is pivotal for the mediation of the reinforcing effects of many dependence-producing drugs. It consists of cell bodies in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) that project to e.g. the nucleus accumbens (NAC), the central nucleus of amygdala (CNA) and the medial prefrontal cortex. LÄS MER
5. Nicotinic mechanisms in ethanol reinforcement. A neurochemical and behavioral study
Sammanfattning : Both smoking and alcohol consumption are known to cause severe health problems and there is an extensive co-abuse of tobacco and ethanol. The reinforcing properties of drugs of abuse may involve the brain mesolimbic dopamine system, that originates in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and projects mainly to the nucleus accumbens. LÄS MER
