16. Regulators of Membrane Fluidity
Sammanfattning : Caenorhabditis elegans PAQR-2 (a homolog of the mammalian AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 proteins) and IGLR-2 (homolog of the mammalian LRIG proteins) form a complex at the plasma membrane that regulates fatty acid desaturation to protect against saturated fatty acid-induced membrane rigidification. Maintenance of membrane homeostasis is fundamental for most cellular processes and, given its importance, robust regulatory mechanisms must exist that adjust lipid composition to compensate for dietary variation. 17. Role of GLP-1 receptor agonists in endothelial function
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: The leading cause of death for patients suffering from type 2 diabetes is macrovascular disease. Endothelial dysfunction is one of the earliest events identified in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Hence, there is a need for finding glucose-lowering agents that cause direct positive effects on vasculature in diabetic patients. LÄS MER
18. Sex-different control of hepatic metabolism in relation to insulin sensitivity
Sammanfattning : The liver is a key metabolic organ. The liver has adapted to the different metabolic needs in men and women, and therefore responds in a sex-specific manner to various stimuli. LÄS MER
19. Lifestyle and glycaemic control before and after the onset of type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex disease with widespread physiological insults to the regulation of metabolic homeostasis, above all glycaemic regulation. The pathogenesis of T2D and its progression is broadly understood to be through a gradual decrease in peripheral insulin sensitivity, a compensatory rise in insulin secretion, and a gradual decline in beta-cell function, resulting in glycaemic dysregulation and eventual T2D. 20. Modern roles for an ancient system. Intracellular Complement in the regulation of β cell function
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterised by defective insulin exocytosis from the pancreatic β cells, accompanied by insulin resistance. Reduced β cells mass is often seen in T2D individuals, caused by enhanced β cells apoptosis. It is now understood that several components drive β cells dysfunction and apoptosis. LÄS MER
