  1. 6. Natural Language Processing for Low-resourced Code-switched Colloquial Languages – The Case of Algerian Language

    Författare :Wafia Adouane; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural language processing; Deep neural networks; Low-resourced language; Colloquial language; Code-switch; Dialectal Arabic; User-generated data; Non-standardised orthography; Algerian language;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we explore to what extent deep neural networks (DNNs), trained end-to-end, can be used to perform natural language processing tasks for code-switched colloquial languages lacking both large automated data and processing tools, for instance tokenisers, morpho-syntactic and semantic parsers, etc. We opt for an end-to-end learning approach because this kind of data is hard to control due to its high orthographic and linguistic variability. 2. 7. Ensembles of Semantic Spaces : On Combining Models of Distributional Semantics with Applications in Healthcare

    Författare :Aron Henriksson; Hercules Dalianis; Martin Duneld; Nigel Collier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; natural language processing; machine learning; distributional semantics; ensemble learning; semantic space ensembles; medical informatics; electronic health records; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Distributional semantics allows models of linguistic meaning to be derived from observations of language use in large amounts of text. By modeling the meaning of words in semantic (vector) space on the basis of co-occurrence information, distributional semantics permits a quantitative interpretation of (relative) word meaning in an unsupervised setting, i. 3. 8. The construction of spaces for Saami language use : language revitalisation in educational contexts

    Författare :David Kroik; Eva Lindgren; Coppélie Cocq; Caroline Kerfoot; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; language revitalisation; educational linguistics; language teaching and learning; Indigenous languages; Saami education; South Saami; Saami linguistics; Indigenous research; language policy and planning; Spaces for Saami language use; Indigenous efflorescence; language teaching and learning; språkdidaktik;

    Sammanfattning : In this dissertation, the construction of spaces for Saami language use is explored. The spaces involve learning and use of South Saami, an Indigenous language in Saepmie in Norway and Sweden. Four separate studies shed light on various aspects of these spaces, how they are constructed, how they are used, by whom and for what purposes. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The effects of extramural language : Relationships between engagement in Japanese language activities and general Japanese language proficiency

    Författare :Andreas Bengtsson; Gunnar Jinmei Linder; Mitsuyo Kuwano Lidén; Pia Sundqvist; Carmen Muñoz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Extramural Ln; Extramural Japanese; Second Language Acquisition; Language Learning; Extramural; Out-of-class; Asiens språk och kulturer; Asian Languages and Cultures;

    Sammanfattning : Many L2 learners believe they learn their target language by using it extramurally, i.e. outside the classroom. This topic, language learning as a result of engagement in L2 use, has garnered increased attention in the last decade. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This study investigates intergenerational language transmission amongst Hungarian immigrants, using in-depth interviews and participant observation as the main methods. The analysis examines the experiences of parents and their school-aged children in 61 families living in Sweden´s two main cities, Stockholm and Göteborg. LÄS MER
