16. Life without mitochondrial DNA : studies of transgenic mice
Sammanfattning : Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a closed circular DNA genome that resides in the mitochondrial network. Mutations of mtDNA cause spontaneous and hereditary disorders known as mitochondrial diseases. Mitochondrial transcription factor A (Tfam) is a key factor for transcription of mtDNA in vitro. LÄS MER
17. The Role of Fc Gamma Receptors in Experimental Arthritis
Sammanfattning : Induction of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), an animal model for human rheumatoid arthritis, is dependent on anti-collagen type II (CII) antibodies. The effector mechanism by which autoantibodies contribute to inflammatory reactions in autoimmune diseases is not well understood. LÄS MER
18. Type 2 Cystatins. Studies on the role of the major cystatin, cystatin C, in mice and on properties and distribution of the novel human cystatins F, G, H and I
Sammanfattning : The aim the thesis work was to study the human cystatins C, E/M, F, G, H and I both in vivo and in vitro. A mouse devoid of cystatin C was used for the cystatin C studies. The levels of cystatins C, E/M and F were measured in pleural effusion samples of patients with various lung disorders. LÄS MER
19. Antibody Feedback Regulation : From Epitope Masking to T Helper Cell Activation
Sammanfattning : Antibodies have the ability to influence the antibody response against the very antigen they are specific for, in a process called antibody feedback regulation. Depending on the nature of the antigen, the antibody response can be either enhanced or almost completely inhibited. LÄS MER
20. New insights into the control of small artery function in human pregnancy and estrogen receptor beta knockout mice
Sammanfattning : Background: Available data clearly indicates functional and morphological differences between small and large arteries, and observations from studies on large arteries may not be applicable to understand the physiology of small arteries (~200-300mum) that actively participate in the regulation of peripheral vascular resistance, blood pressure and flow to target organs. These events confer cardiovascular adaptation to normal pregnancy (NP), however they are disturbed in preeclampsia (PE) and in estrogen receptor beta knockout (ERbetaKO) mice at a certain age. LÄS MER
