  1. 6. Transport of Mercury Species in the Environment. Exchange between Oceanic Waters and the Atmosphere

    Författare :Maria Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mercury; dissolved gaseous mercury; elemental mercury; evasion; flux; Mediterranean Sea; North Atlantic Ocean; Arctic Ocean; accumulation; in-situ measurements; on-line measurements;

    Sammanfattning : Mercury is an element present in the earth crust as well as a component in the atmosphere. During centuries mercury has been released by natural sources, e.g. volcanic eruptions, evasion from water surfaces and degassing from soil. LÄS MER

  2. 7. The micrometeorite flux to Earth through the Phanerozoic Eon : Reconstructed using sediment-dispersed extraterrestrial spinels

    Författare :Ellinor Martin; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromite; chrome spinel; micrometeorites; Phanerozoic; asteroid breakup; ordinary chondrites; 3He anomalies; lunar impacts; ice age; impact craters; zircons;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to add an astronomical component to the history and evolution of Earth by reconstructing the micrometeorite flux to Earth at different time intervals during the Phanerozoic Eon, using sediment-dispersed extraterrestrial spinel group minerals as a proxy. Chromite and chrome spinel are common refractory members of the spinel group, occurring in both extraterrestrial and terrestrial rocks. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Extreme solar particle storms and links to solar activity inferred from cosmogenic radionuclides in ice cores

    Författare :Chiara Paleari; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice cores; cosmogenic radionuclides; Solar storms; 10Be; 36Cl; Solar energetic particles;

    Sammanfattning : During solar storms, large amounts of solar energetic particles (SEP) are accelerated into the interplanetary medium and sometimes hit Earth. These events, known as SEP events, can have harmful impacts on our modern society by affecting spacecrafts and potentially astronauts in space. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Turbulence in the sea ice impacted Southern Ocean and its implications for primary production and carbon export

    Författare :Isabelle Giddy; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Ocean; sea ice; submesoscale; diapycnal mixing; heat fluxes; primary production; carbon export; gliders.;

    Sammanfattning : The sea ice impacted Southern Ocean, south of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, is one of the most important regions on earth for the cycling of carbon and distribution of heat and freshwater around the globe. Here, along-isopycnal upwelling of warm, carbon-rich circumpolar deep water coincides with the annual growth and melt of Antarctic sea ice that represents one of the worlds largest surface water transformations. 5. 10. The flux of extraterrestrial spinels to Earth associated with He-3 anomalies in Cenozoic and Ordovician sediments

    Författare :Samuele Boschi; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chromite; He-3 anomaly; Cenozoic; mid-Ordovician; asteroid breakup; ordinary chondrites; Popigai ejecta; iridium anomaly; Zircons; ice age;

    Sammanfattning : The main goal of this thesis is to reconstruct the flux of extraterrestrial matter to Earth in specific time intervals of our past in order to add an astronomical dimension to the understanding of Earth's history. To accomplish this, extraterrestrial chrome-spinel grains have been extracted and analysed. LÄS MER
