1. Experimental studies of radiation-induced dissolution of UO2 : The effect of intrinsic solid phase properties and external factors
Sammanfattning : Dissolution of the UO2 matrix is one of the potential routes for radionuclide release in a future deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel. This doctoral thesis focuses on interfacial reactions of relevance in radiation-induced dissolution of UO2 and is divided in two parts:In the first part, we sought to explore the effects of solid phase composition:The impact of surface stoichiometry on the reactivity of UO2 towards aqueous radiolytic oxidants was studied. 2. Novel electrode and photoelectrode materials for hydrogen production based on molecular catalysts
Sammanfattning : The PhD project focussed on the application of a cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic complex, in the literature commonly referred to as [Co(CR)Cl2]+ as a molecular catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This was within the broader scope of the EU MSCA H2020 ITN ‘eSCALED’ project, which primarily aimed to create artificial leaf devices for the storage of solar energy in chemical fuels and, as part of this, sought the development of novel bio-inspired and scalable materials. 3. Importance of bacterial hydrogen sulfide in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases
Sammanfattning : Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is one of many end-products of the proteolytic activities in the subgingival microbiota in patients with periodontal diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis. Although H2S is generally regarded as toxic, the mechanisms that underlie its production and its effects on human cells and tissues are poorly understood. LÄS MER
4. Some aspects on TCF-bleachability of softwood alkaline pulps
Sammanfattning : The bleachability of softwood oxygen delignified pulps has been studied, i.e. the ease (requirement of bleaching chemicals) with which the pulps can be brightened to a target brightness in totally chlorine free (TCF) bleaching stages, including hydrogen peroxide, ozone and chelating agent stages. 5. Dental acrylates and methacrylates - Interactions with the immune system
Sammanfattning : Professionals working in dentistry have reported adverse effects, such as allergic contact dermatitis due to exposure to different methacrylates/acrylates. Leakage of such monomers from dental fillings due to incomplete curing is also common. LÄS MER
