  1. 1. Statistics in Gene Expression, Metabolomics, and Comparative Genomics in Evolution

    Författare :Alexandra Jauhiainen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gene Expression; Metabolomics; Data Integration; Comparative genomics; Gene Expression;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contains four papers concerning (I) the evolutionary conservation of drug targets and its potential use in environmental risk assessments, (II) RNA degradation as a control mechanism during osmotic stress in the yeast S. cerevisiae, (III) the localization and effects of the gene DDIT3 encoding a key regulator of stress response, and (IV) the integration and analysis of transcriptional and metabolic data to identify active metabolic pathways. 2. 2. Atypical Solute Carriers : Identification, evolutionary conservation, structure and histology of novel membrane-bound transporters

    Författare :Emelie Perland; Robert Fredriksson; Helgi Schiöth; Åsa Mackenzie; Sonchita Bagchi; Carsten Uhd Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Major facilitator superfamily; solute carrier; transporter; protein expression; mRNA expression; phylogenetic clustering; orthologues; co-expression; subcellular location; nutrition.; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Solute carriers (SLCs) constitute the largest family of membrane-bound transporter proteins in humans, and they convey transport of nutrients, ions, drugs and waste over cellular membranes via facilitative diffusion, co-transport or exchange. Several SLCs are associated with diseases and their location in membranes and specific substrate transport makes them excellent as drug targets. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies of myc gene expression and a novel endoribonuclease activity

    Författare :Anders Wennborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :c-myc; B-myc; heat-shock; mRNA degradation; endoribonucleases; AUUUAmotifs; RNase E.;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this work was to study the regulation of cellular oncogene expression, with emphasis on the c-myc gene, which is de-regulated in several human and animal tumors. The steady-state expression level of c-myc mRNA or protein was analyzed in panels of human Blymphoid cell lines with different growth and transformation properties, and the general observation was a co-variation between high c-myc expression and a more malignant phenotype of the cell lines. 4. 4. Prognostic and treatment predictive factors for radio- and chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer patients- a step towards personlized medicine

    Författare :Emma Niméus; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 2-DE; cyclin B1; breast cancer; radioresistance; immunohistochemistry; chemotherapy resistance; gene expression; treatment prediction; prognosis;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common cancer form among women in the Western world. Although treatment has improved during the last decades, there is still a significant proportion of the patients who are not cured. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Dynamics of inbreeding and genetic rescue in a small population

    Författare :Malin Hasselgren; Karin Norén; Carles Vilà; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; inbreeding; inbreeding depression; genetic rescue; fitness; genomics; conservation genetics; mutational load; arctic fox; pedigree; gene flow; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Isolation at small population size can reduce individual fitness and impede population growth caused by inbreeding and genetic drift (i.e. inbreeding depression). Inbreeding depression can however be circumvented by gene flow from unrelated individuals through masking of recessive deleterious alleles and contribute to population persistence (i. LÄS MER
