21. The small bowel and functional dyspepsia : peptide hormones and neurotransmitters
Sammanfattning : Functional dyspepsia (FD) is believed to be caused by pathophysiological changes in the upper gut. Gastro-intestinal motility, epithelial transport and signalling is associated with the metabolism of nutrients and the complex regulation of hunger and satiety. Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and peptide YY (PYY) are considered “hot targets”. LÄS MER
22. Evaluations of measurement techniques in functional dyspepsia : electrogastrography, satiety drinking test and 14C-urea breath test
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of certain measurement techniques that may be helpful in the understanding of functional dyspepsia (FD). Electrogastrography (EGG) parameters were evaluated and found unable to discriminate one specific motility disorder from other motility disorders of the gut. LÄS MER
23. Helicobacter pylori : multitalented adaptation of binding properties
Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori infects and persistently colonizes the stomach, which results in gastritis and in some individuals peptic ulcer disease or gastric cancer. Adherence of H. pylori to the epithelium is an important factor for development of disease. LÄS MER
24. Changes in Gastrointestinal Function and Patient-scored Symptoms after Bariatric Surgery
Sammanfattning : The obesity pandemic is rapidly increasing. Individuals with obesity are affected by obesity-related comorbidities, reduced life expectancy, and reduced quality of life. The most effective treatment for obesity and its comorbidities is bariatric surgery, restoring the physical component of quality of life. LÄS MER
25. Aspects on luminal nitric oxide in relation to oesophageal acid exposure and mucosal integrity
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) exerts important neuromuscular control of the oesophagus, but little is known about the sources and effects of the NO present in the distal oesophageal lumen. These questions were presently addressed in both human and animal experiments. LÄS MER
