1. An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Decentralized Gas Fired Liquid Heating
Sammanfattning : The effects on the energy situation in industry when gas fired liquid heaters replace steam have been determined by energy surveys performed in a brewery and a slaughterhouse, measurements of the performance and emissions from liquid heaters installed in these industries, and theoretical analyses of the potential energy saving. The theoretical study in the first part of the project provides information that allows assessment of the effects on the energy situation, of part or complete conversion to decentralized heating, under the conditions prevailing in the industries concerned. 2. Characterization of conversion zones in a reciprocating grate furnace firing wet woody biomass
Sammanfattning : Grate-firing systems are a common and popular combustion technology for burning biomass. However, combustion of biomass in these furnaces may emit a large amount of pollutants in the form of CO, CH4, PAH, NOx, and particles. LÄS MER
3. On Gas Turbine Diagnostics with Emphasis on Combustion Chambers
Sammanfattning : The thesis aims to analyse the gas turbine based energy conversion systems with the emphasis on combustion chambers. The investigation is mainly experimental at a component level. The majority of investigations concentrate on gaseous fuel firing. LÄS MER
4. Catalytic Combustion in Gas Turbines : Experimental Study on Gasified Biomass Utilization
Sammanfattning : Environmental and geopolitical concerns encourage societies towards the utilization of renewable energy sources (RES). Photovoltaic and wind power can produce electricity directly, although their intermittent characteristic negatively affects the security and safety of the energy supply chain; moreover, in order to be viable it is necessary to establish energy storage systems and to find mechanisms to adapt the power distribution grid to larger production variability. 5. Volumetric combustion of torrefied biomass for large percentage biomass co-firing up to 100% fuel switch
Sammanfattning : The co-firing of biomass and coal plays an important role in increasing the biomass power capacity and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The challenges of the large percentage biomass co-firing (over 20% on energy basis) in existing pulverized coal boilers are keeping the same steam parameters and having a high boiler efficiency and a stable operating.
