1. Aspects of the human enteric nervous system : A study of the normal development and of Hirschsprung's disease
Sammanfattning : Thirty patients with Hirschsprung's disease (HD) who underwent Rehbein's anterior resection, using a circular stapler to perform the anastomosis, were evaluated retrospectively. The postoperative complication rate and long-term functional outcome were similar to those reported by other investigators using the same and other techniques. LÄS MER
2. The Influence of Intrauterine Environment on Cardiovascular Development During Fetal Life
Sammanfattning : Fetal growth restriction has been linked to later cardiovascular disease, possibly through reduced arterial distensibility in response to a suboptimal intrauterine environment. This thesis sought firstly to examine the relationship between fetal growth and haemodynamics and their effect on later cardiovascular function and secondly to examine the effects of differential volume loading on arterial distensibility in genetically identical monochorionic twins with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and to explore the effect that early treatment has on vascular development. 3. MRI Studies of the Fetal Brain and Cranium
Sammanfattning : Ultrasound is the primary modality for fetal imaging, but Magnetic Resonance Imaging nowadays has a valuable complementary role as it often reveals findings that alter pregnancy management. Knowledge on some clinically relevant areas of the normal fetal development is still lacking, and this was the aim of this project. LÄS MER
4. Laminins and alpha11 integrin in the human eye : importance in development and disease
Sammanfattning : The extracellular matrix (ECM) offers a protective shelter for cells and provides signaling paths important for cell to cell communication. ECM consists of basement membranes (BM) and interstitial matrix. BMs provide mechanical support for parenchymal cells, influence cell proliferation, survival, migration and differentiation. LÄS MER
5. Continuous Intrapartum Maternal and Fetal Temperature Monitoring
Sammanfattning : The maternal temperature is normally increasing during delivery. Maternal fever in labor is a common problem.Such fever could represent a chorioamnionitis (CAM), leading to an increased risk of neonatal encephalopathy andsubsequent cerebral palsy, as well as other complications.
