1. Middle ear structure in relation to function : the rat in middle ear research
Sammanfattning : The present study was undertaken to evaluate the rat as a model for middle ear research. The rat was chosen primarily because the gross structure of its middle ear shows several similarities to that of man. LÄS MER
2. Middle ear mechanics : using temporal bone experiments to improve clinical methods
Sammanfattning : BackgroundThe middle ear transmits and amplifies sound vibrations from the tympanic membrane via three ossicles to the inner ear. Moreover, it contains two muscles, the stapedius muscle (SM) which protects the inner ear from loud noise, and the tensor tympani (TT) whose function is still debated. LÄS MER
3. Middle Ear Pressure; A New Method for Continuous Direct Measurements
Sammanfattning : Disturbances in the pressure homeostasis of the middle ear (ME) system cause a pressure gradient across the tympanic membrane lessen the effectiveness of sound transmission and may be associated to development of chronic ME disease. An equipment for continuous direct pressure measurements was developed and was found to be accurate, base-line stabile and portable. LÄS MER
4. Transmyringeal middle ear ventilation : an experimental approach to evaluation of its benefits and consequences
Sammanfattning : A prerequisite for a functioning middle ear is an air-filled middle ear cavity. Aeration of the middle ear cavity is controlled by the Eustachian tube. Dysfunction of the Eustachian tube has long been acknowledged as a significant etiological factor in disorders of the middle ear, especially middle ear effusions. LÄS MER
5. Middle ear cholesteatoma : Surgical outcome and aspects of the innate immunity
Sammanfattning : Cholesteatomas are bone destructive expansions of keratinizing squamous epithelium in the middle ear and temporal bone. Today, surgery is the only treatment. There are several controversies regarding cholesteatomas, including the definition, the pathogenesis and the surgical method. LÄS MER
