  1. 1. Immunomodulation by estrogen and estren

    Författare :Ulrika Islander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :estrogen receptor knock-out mice; estrogen; estren; estrogen receptor; lymphopoiesis; T cells; B cells; immunoglobulin; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen affects the development and regulation of the immune system. Treatment of gonadectomized mice with estrogen results in suppression of T and B lymphopoiesis, as well as decreased delayed type hypersensitivity reaction, granulocyte mediated inflammation and levels of IL-6 in serum. 2. 2. LXR and aromatase knock-out mice : animal models providing insight into human diseases

    Författare :Hyun-Jin Kim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In our characterization of mouse strains carrying mutations in nuclear receptor and aromatase genes we have found phenotypes which resemble four human diseases: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), Sjögren s syndrome (SS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. The work in this thesis was designed to understand the roles of LXRalpha, LXRbeta and aromatase in development of these diseases and to investigate whether these animal models help us (1) to understand the etiology of the corresponding human diseases and (2) to develop new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of these diseases. 3. 3. Estrogen receptors in the regulation of the skeleton

    Författare :Marie Lindberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen is important for the regulation of bone growth as well as for adult bone metabolism in females. Androgens have long been considered the main sex steroid in the regulation of the skeleton in males. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modulation of estrogen receptors alpha and beta. Effects on the immune system

    Författare :Malin Erlandsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen affects the development and function of the immune system. Gonadectomized mice treated with estrogen display suppressed T and B lymphopoiesis and inhibited T cell and granulocyte dependent inflammation, while mature B cells are stimulated to produce more immunoglobulins.
