  1. 11. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Författare :Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Development and Use of Optical Remote Sensing Methods for Studies of Megacity Air Pollution and Volcanic Gas Emissions

    Författare :Mattias Erik Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; volcano; emission; Megacity; air pollution; tomography; DOAS;

    Sammanfattning : Optical Remote Sensing Techniques offers the opportunity to, in real-time, obtain line averaged measurements of gases in the lower and upper atmosphere. These techniques easily offer themselves to automatization, which increases their usability for e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Development and Implementation of a Wireless Sensor Network for Volcanic Gas Emission Monitoring

    Författare :Yan Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NOVAC; gas emission; sensor; embedded PC; volcano; DOAS; spectroscopy; SO2; network;

    Sammanfattning : Volcanic eruptions have great impacts on the life of the inhabitants in the surrounding areas and even to the global climate. Around 15-21×10 Tg/yr SO2 are injected to the troposphere and the stratosphere by the active volcanoes in the world[Halmer et al., 2002]. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Diabetes

    Författare :Lina Carlbom; Håkan Ahlström; Olle Korsgren; Olof Eriksson; Lars Johansson; Tove Grönroos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Positron emission tomography; Magnetic resonance imaging; Magnetic resonance spectroscopy; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; PET MR; Pancreas transplantation; Perfusion; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to further advance the field of diabetes research there is a great need for establishing validated non-invasive quantitative techniques to study the pancreas and other tissues of importance for blood glucose regulation. The general aim of this thesis was to explore magnetic resonance techniques and positron emission tomography as such tools. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Lithium-ion Battery Safety - Assessment by Abuse Testing, Fluoride Gas Emissions and Fire Propagation

    Författare :Carl Fredrik Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fire; thermal runaway; gas emission; gas explosion; propagation; safety; abuse testing; Lithium-ion; cell case explosion; hydrogen fluoride;

    Sammanfattning : Lithium-ion batteries offer high energy and power densities as well as long life time but have a more narrow stability window compared to other battery types and contain reactive and flammable materials. In case of overheating the battery cell can release gas (vent) and, at temperatures of about 150-200 °C, a so called thermal runaway can occur, that is a rapid self-heated temperature increase which is typically accompanied with a large release of smoke and gas, fire and a potential cell case explosion or gas explosion.
