  1. 1. Ecology and evolution of coastal Baltic Sea 'dead zone' sediments

    Författare :Elias Broman; Mark Dopson; Nils Risgaard-Petersen; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; sediment; oxygen; metatranscriptomics; metagenomics; 16S rRNA gene; RNA-seq; dead zone; re-oxygenation; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Since industrialization and the release of agricultural fertilizers began, coastal and open waters of the Baltic Sea have been loaded with nutrients. This has increased the growth of algal blooms and because a portion of the algal organic matter sinks to the sea floor, hypoxia has increased. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Excessive Seas : Waste Ecologies of Eutrophication

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation researches how perspectives in western industrial societies communicate about and give meaning to environmental degradation through case studies on the causes and effects of cultural eutrophication—namely nutrient pollution, algal blooms, and dead zones—in the Baltic Sea. Utilizing this approach, this dissertation addresses the ecological problems of cultural eutrophication in marine ecosystems by exposing normative claims humans make about the Baltic Sea and its contents as well as detailing how seas that exceed human expectations may offer insights into negotiating differing perspectives, discrepancies in power, and ways of being among humans and non-humans in marine environments. 3. 3. Tools for protective lung ventilation. The elastic pressure-volume curve and aspiration of dead space

    Författare :Edoardo De Robertis; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; radiology; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; tomography; medical instrumentation; Respiratory system; Andningsorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) may contribute to morbidity and mortality of acute lung injury (ALI). Lung protective ventilation (LPV), that reduces VILI, may involve low tidal volume (Vt). Particularly low Vt is possible if dead space ventilation is reduced e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Det permanentade provisoriet : ett återanvänt industriområde i väntan på rivning eller erkännande

    Författare :Gabriella Olshammar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; place; image; periphery; space; dissolving city; urban fringe belt; recycled industrial zone; re-use; stigmatising; Henri Lefebvre; non-place; power;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the story is told about the 'permanent-provisional state' that has come about in a never completed, and now degenerated, industrial zone in Göteborg. In the "Gustaf Dalén area" there is a rich mixture of activities, and by and large no resident population. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Phytoplankton and bacterioplankton dynamics in a polymictic tropical lake

    Författare :Rolf Erikson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; tropical lake; algae; bacteria; regulation; dynamics; interaction; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Phytoplankton and bacterioplankton dynamics in lakes are regulated by a multitude of factors such as light, temperature, water column mixing, nutrients, organic substrates, grazing, and food web structure. Tropical lakes are especially interesting to study because of the relative constancy of several of these factors. LÄS MER
