  1. 1. Retroviral long Terminal Repeats; Structure, Detection and Phylogeny

    Författare :Farid Benachenhou; Jonas Blomberg; Göran Sperber; Aris Katzourakis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retrovirus; long terminal repeats; hidden Markov models; phylogeny; alignment; conserved motif; stem-loop; Clinical virology; Klinisk virologi; Klinisk virologi; Clinical Virology;

    Sammanfattning : Long terminal repeats (LTRs) are non-coding repeats flanking the protein-coding genes of LTR retrotransposons. The variability of LTRs poses a challenge in studying them. Hidden Markov models (HMMs), probabilistic models widely used in pattern recognition, are useful in dealing with this variability. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational Modelling of Gene Regulation in Cancer : Coding the noncoding genome

    Författare :Husen Muhammad Umer; Jan Komorowski; Claes Wadelius; Jan Korbel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Regulatory elements; gene regulation; cancer; motif; integrative database; software solutions for cancer data; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Technological advancements have enabled quantification of processes within and around us. The information stored within our body converts into petabytes of data. Processing and learning from such data requires comprehensive computational programs and software systems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Plasma Membrane H+-ATPase - Identification of a 14-3-3 binding motif

    Författare :Fredrik Svennelid; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regulation; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; plasma membrane; plant; phosphorylation; isoforms; H -ATPase; fusicoccin; C terminus; binding motif; 14-3-3; autoinhibitory domain;

    Sammanfattning : The P-type plasma membrane H+-ATPases form a group of proteins only found in plants and fungi. The pumping of protons across the plasma membrane, energized by ATP hydrolysis, creates an electrochemical gradient that is essential for solute transport and internal pH regulation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Conserved structure-function relationships in the mediator complex

    Författare :Tomas Linder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Transcription; Mediator; yeast;

    Sammanfattning : The Mediator complex is an essential multiprotein coregulator of RNA polymerase II (pol II)- dependent transcription in fungi and metazoans. Mediator interacts directly with both pol II and sequence-specific transcriptional regulators and thus acting as a bridge between the two. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The 14-3-3 protein family - Conserved structure, diverse functions

    Författare :Magnus Rosenquist; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regulation; phosphorylation; plant; plasma membrane; fusicoccin; H ATPase; binding motifs; specificity; evolution; 14-3-3; isoforms; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : While once abstruse, 14-3-3 proteins are now well known as players in several cellular processes. These processes range from apoptosis and mitosis in mammals and yeast, to regulation of primary metabolism in plants. To date, 104 proteins have been shown to interact with 14-3-3s of which 85 are found in mammals and yeast, and 21 are found in plants. LÄS MER
