  1. 16. Studies on the regulation of hepatic and intestinal lipid metabolism

    Författare :Kristina Kannisto; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Disturbances in the lipid homeostasis can result in a wide variety of different diseases and symptoms. This thesis is focused on the regulation of cholesterol metabolism and its relation to atherosclerosis development, and the effect of mitochondrial (mt)DNA depletion on hepatic β-oxidation of fatty acids. 2. 17. Intestinal transport and hepatic extraction of fluvastatin in humans and rats

    Författare :Anders Lindahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : The oral route is the most convenient route of delivering drugs intended to have systemic effects. One of the key variables determining the rate and extent of absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is the intestinal permeability to the drug. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Partition chromatography of drugs on immobilized liposomes and biomembranes : A method applicable to screening in drug design

    Författare :Farideh Beigi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : One of the main pathways for drug passage into cells is diffusion across the lipid bilayer ofthe cell membrane. A key factor in this process is the drug partitioning into the bilayer, whichcan be translated into a retention in a chromatographic system. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Characterisation of Dietary Fibre Properties to Optimise the Effects on Human Metabolism and the Transcriptome

    Författare :Matilda Ulmius; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; field-flow fractionation; gastrointestinal method; aggregation; solubilisation; pectin; β-glucan; sugar beet fibre; Oats; rye; postprandial responses; microarray gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that dietary fibre, especially soluble dietary fibre, has beneficial effects and can prevent diseases associated with the modern lifestyle. This has been explained by the viscous effects of soluble fibre, which can reduce or delay the absorption of carbohydrates and fat in the small intestine, resulting in lower blood concentrations of glucose, insulin and cholesterol. 5. 20. Spices in the postprandial metabolic regulation of healthy humans : An integrated physiological and omics approach

    Författare :Yoghatama Cindya Zanzer; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :Spices; Postprandial; Glycemia; Lipemia; Appetite regulation; Metabolic endotoxemia; Bile acids; Transcriptomics; Nutrigenomics;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a consequence of obesity and defined as cluster of at least three out of five criteria covering insulin resistance/glucose intolerance, abdominal obesity, hypertension, low HDL-c and elevated TG levels. Imbalance between energy intake and expenditure is known to alter normal physiological function in many aspects, and leads to obesity, which in the long run may turn into type 2 diabetes (T2D) and ultimately cardiovascular disease (CVD).
