  1. 1. Barley malt products for improved intestinal health

    Författare :Cristina Teixeira; Kemicentrum Centrum för preventiv livsmedelsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; short-chain fatty acids; β-glucan; arabinoxylan; steeping; β-glucan molecular weight; Barley; microbiota; malt; Barley; malt; steeping; Beta-glucan; beta-glucan molecular weight; Arabinoxylan; short-chain fatty acids; Microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : Barley is a good source of dietary fibre, particularly β-glucan and arabinoxylan, to increase formation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Butyric and propionic acid are involved in the preservation of colonic barrier function, thus decreasing the risk of inflammation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Foaming of cellulose derivatives and hemicellulose-containing materials

    Författare :Kristina Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; β-glucan; arabinoxylan; scale-up production; hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC ; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose EHEC ; hot-mould foaming; extensional viscosity; extrusion; hemicellulose; rheological characterisation; Foaming; xylan; cellulose derivatives;

    Sammanfattning : Fossil-based polymeric foams are important materials due to their good mechanical properties relative their low density, the low price and the possibility for large-scale production. They are widely used in cushioning, absorbing and insulation applications. There are however a few disadvantages with these foamed products. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterisation of Dietary Fibre Properties to Optimise the Effects on Human Metabolism and the Transcriptome

    Författare :Matilda Ulmius; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; field-flow fractionation; gastrointestinal method; aggregation; solubilisation; pectin; β-glucan; sugar beet fibre; Oats; rye; postprandial responses; microarray gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that dietary fibre, especially soluble dietary fibre, has beneficial effects and can prevent diseases associated with the modern lifestyle. This has been explained by the viscous effects of soluble fibre, which can reduce or delay the absorption of carbohydrates and fat in the small intestine, resulting in lower blood concentrations of glucose, insulin and cholesterol. 4. 4. Cholesterol-lowering properties of oats: Effects of processing and the role of oat components

    Författare :Tina Immerstrand; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oats; oat β-glucan; cholesterol; mice;

    Sammanfattning : The cholesterol-lowering effect of oats has been studied for almost fifty years. The effect has hitherto essentially been associated with its content of β-glucans, the primary soluble dietary fibre in oats. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the Aggregation of Cereal β-Glucan and its Association with other Biomolecules : A Study using Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4)

    Författare :Claudia Zielke; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :ß-glucan; polysaccharides; dietary fiber; field flow fractionation; Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation AF4 ; Multiangle light scattering MALS ;

    Sammanfattning : During recent years, numerous studies have shown the ability of dietary fiber toprotect the colon from disease and to improve intestinal health. Beneficial healtheffects, such as the lowering of blood cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease, are often directly related to cereal β-glucan, one of the major components of dietary fiber found in oat and barley.
