16. 4D flow MRI and modelling to assess cerebral arterial hemodynamics : method development and evaluation, with implementation in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis
Sammanfattning : Blood flow measurements are important for understanding the development of cerebrovascular diseases. With 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (4D flow MRI), simultaneous velocity measurements are obtained in all cerebral arteries in a scan of about ten minutes. However, 4D flow MRI is a relatively new technique. LÄS MER
17. Acquired Epilepsy with a Focus on Stroke: Treatment and Prognosis
Sammanfattning : The relationship between epilepsy and stroke is complicated. While stroke is a major cause of epilepsy after middle age, there is also evidence that the risk of stroke is increased in persons with epilepsy. The overall aim of this dissertation is to elaborate on the prognosis and treatment of epilepsy in older adults and its association to stroke. LÄS MER
18. Psychosocial and stress-related aspects on ischemic heart disease
Sammanfattning : Objective: To study different aspects of ischemic heart disease (IHD) i.e. stress related risk factors, biochemical markers of stress, in particular the cortisol awakening response (CAR) and outcome in terms of health related quality of life (HRQoL). Methods: 72 myocardial infarction (AMI) patients took part in the HRQoL studies. LÄS MER
19. Risk factors for development of neurocognitive disorders
Sammanfattning : Vascular risk factors are believed to be involved in dementia development by increasing risk of the most common dementia types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia. The aim of this thesis was to study if risk factors affect key brain pathology directly, by using biomarkers for dementia in preclinical stages, and to assess previous findings in a large population-based setting. 20. Noninvasive assessment of cerebral circulation before, during and after carotid surgery
Sammanfattning : Non-invasive ultrasound investigations were evaluated in patients with carotid artery stenosis in comparison with radiological disease gradations and perioperative blood pressure measurements. The aim was to assess cerebrovascular hemodynamics before, during and after carotid thrombendarterectomy (CEA) in relation to the clinical outcome of the surgical intervention. LÄS MER
