21. Studies on the regulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase in endothelial dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Ischaemic heart disease and cerebrovascular disease are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. The underlying progression of the disease is linked to a reduction in the bioavailability of nitric oxide. One factor contributing to this is an increase in the production of superoxide radicals. 22. Engineering the shape of bacterial cellulose and its use as blood vessel replacement
Sammanfattning : Tissue loss and organ failure are major health problems that impose great costs on society. Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for 36% of mortalities and the disease burden among adults over the age of 60. The single largest cardiovascular disease is atherosclerosis in the coronary artery. LÄS MER
23. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome
Sammanfattning : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002. 24. Atherosclerosis of the ascending aorta as a risk factor for stroke after cardiac surgery : a study based on epiaortic ultrasound
Sammanfattning : Postoperative stroke is a dreaded problem in cardiac surgery and atherosclerosis of the ascending aorta (AAA) is an important risk factor. The risk from calcified AAA, the extent and the topography of the disease in the development of stroke was evaluated. LÄS MER
25. Refractory angina pectoris. Patient characteristics, safety and long-term effects of spinal cord stimulation
Sammanfattning : Refractory angina pectoris has been defined as severe angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease which cannot be controlled by conventional pharmacological or surgical therapy. The epidemiology of this condition is virtually unknown. During the last decades, additional treatment options have been developed for this condition. LÄS MER
