1. Functions of Generalized Bounded Variation
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the study of different generalizations of the classical conception of a function of bounded variation.First, we study the functions of bounded p-variation introduced by Wiener in 1924. We obtain estimates of the total p-variation (1.. LÄS MER
2. Bounded Rationality and Exemplar Models
Sammanfattning : Bounded rationality is the study of how human cognition with limited capacity is adapted to handle the complex information structures in the environment. This thesis argues that in order to understand the bounded rationality of decision processes, it is necessary to develop decision theories that are computational process models based upon basic cognitive and perceptual mechanisms. 3. Algebras of bounded holomorphic functions
Sammanfattning : Some problems concerning the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions from bounded domains in Cn are solved. A bounded domain of holomorphy Q in C2 with nonschlicht i7°°- envelope of holomorphy is constructed and it is shown that there is a point in Q for which Gleason’s Problem for H°°(Q) cannot be solved. 4. Inequality, Health, and Smoking
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five self-contained, yet related, research papers, which all contribute to the economic literature on socioeconomic differences in health and health related behavior. The first two papers provide a compass in the discussion of how to measure health inequality and, more specifically, how to adjust measures and concepts when moving from an unbounded income variable to a bounded (or binary) health variable. 5. War and Unreason. Bounded Learning Theory and War Duration
Sammanfattning : Why are some wars longer than others? Offense-defense theorists have assumed that wars are shorter and it is more difficult for states to create security when military technology favors the offense and attacking is easier than defending. This study argues that this assumption is wrong on both accounts. LÄS MER
