  1. 6. Frk/Shb Signalling in Pancreatic Beta-cells : Roles in Islet Function, Beta-cell Development and Survival as Implicated in Mouse Knockout Models

    Författare :Björn Åkerblom; Michael Welsh; Hindrik Mulder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The adaptor protein Shb and the non-receptor tyrosine kinase Frk have been implicated in intracellular signalling in insulin-producing beta cells. In this thesis, knockout mice are used to further elucidate the role of Shb and Frk for beta cell number, cytokine-induced cell death, and glucose homeostasis. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Role of MAP Kinases in the Life and Death of Beta-cells

    Författare :Natalia Makeeva; Nils Welsh; Godfried Roomans; Thomas Mandrup-Poulsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; beta-cell; p38 MAPK; nitric oxide; apoptosis; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The development of diabetes mellitus depends on the balance between beta-cell proliferation and death. As mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) may control this balance, the aim of this study was to investigate the events leading to MAPK activation in beta-cells and the consequences of these events. 3. 8. Glucose- and hypoxia-regulated insulin gene expression

    Författare :Linda Tillmar; Jens Höiriis Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; islet; beta-cell; insulin; mRNA stability; PTB; glucose; hypoxia; mTOR; p70s6k; ceramide; redox; ROS; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Although extensively studied, there are still many unanswered questions regarding the exact regulation of insulin gene expression. This is important to further investigate since it will hopefully help us understand the pathophysiology of some types of diabetes. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The role of Smad7 and TRAF6 in Prostate Cancer Cell Invasion, Migration and Survival

    Författare :Maria Ekman; Marene Landström; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-beta; cell migration; invasion; apoptosis; Smad7; APC; ATM; TRAF6; p53; PC3U; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor (TGF) β is a tumor suppressor during early tumor development, by inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis. At later stages of cancer, it becomes a tumor promoter, and promotes tumor cell migration and invasion. TGFβ signals via its type II and type I receptors to several downstream signaling pathways. 5. 10. Insulin Signalling in Human Adipocytes and its Interplay with beta-Adrenergic Control of Lipolysis

    Författare :Cecilia Karlsson; Peter Strålfors; Maria V Turkina; Jan Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of obesity has over the last 40 years nearly tripled and obesity is one of the major risk factors of developing type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes was formerly called adultonset diabetes but today, probably due to the rise in childhood obesity, it is also seen in children and adolescents. LÄS MER
