  1. 1. p38 MAPK Signalling in Endothelial Apoptosis

    Författare :Simone Grethe; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; PP2A; Bad; Bcl-xL; doxorubicin; TNF; p38 MAPK; Apoptosis; endothelial cells;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial apoptosis plays an important role in atherosclerosis, and a direct proapoptotic effect of chemotherapeutics on the tumour vasculature, emphasizes the great potency of antiangiogenic therapy in the treatment of cancer. We investigated signalling pathways in endothelial apoptosis induced by the inflammatory cytokine tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF), the main target of which is the endothelium, and by the anticancer drug doxorubicin. 2. 2. Role of MAP Kinases in the Life and Death of Beta-cells

    Författare :Natalia Makeeva; Nils Welsh; Godfried Roomans; Thomas Mandrup-Poulsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; beta-cell; p38 MAPK; nitric oxide; apoptosis; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The development of diabetes mellitus depends on the balance between beta-cell proliferation and death. As mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) may control this balance, the aim of this study was to investigate the events leading to MAPK activation in beta-cells and the consequences of these events. 3. 3. Regulation of neutrophil apoptosis

    Författare :Maria Alvarado-Kristensson; Malmö Molekylär patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; General pathology; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi; PP2A; p38 MAPK; caspases; signal transduction; inflammation; Apoptosis; human neutrophils;

    Sammanfattning : The human neutrophil is the most abundant granulocyte and the major type of cell involved in an acute inflammatory response. Neutrophils are armed with various systems of enzymes, that can find and kill pathogens, but unfortunately, these "weapons" cannot distinguish between the host tissues and the "invaders. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Prognostic Biomarkers and Target Proteins for Treatment of High-grade Gliomas

    Författare :Linda Sooman; Simon Ekman; Johan Lennartsson; Joachim Gullbo; Michael Bergqvist; Erik Blomquist; Stefan Bergström; Beatrice Melin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; High-grade glioma; prognostic biomarkers; combination chemotherapy; DNA methylation; FGF2; p38 MAPK; PTPN6; camptothecin; imatinib; vandetanib; EGFR; RAC1; Notch; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The survival for high-grade glioma patients is poor and the treatment may cause severe side effects. A common obstacle in the treatment is chemoresistance. To improve the quality of life and prolong survival for these patients prognostic biomarkers and new approaches for chemotherapy are needed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. MEKK-1 and NF-κB Signaling in Pancreatic Islet Cell Death

    Författare :Dariush Mokhtari; Nils Welsh; Michael Welsh; Anders Tengholm; Shanta Persaud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; MEKK-1; JNK; human islets; β-cells; siRNA; apoptosis; cell death; MAPK; nitric oxide; cytokines; streptozotocin; c-Rel; NF-κB; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease resulting in the selective destruction of the insulin producing β-cells in the pancreas. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and the free radical nitric oxide (NO) have been implicated in mediating the destruction of β-cells, possibly through activation of the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) JNK, ERK and p38.
