2. Work in voluntary welfare organizations : A sociological study of voluntary welfare organizations in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Since Sweden has one of the most comprehensive welfare states, the role of voluntary organizations active in the field of welfare is often neglected. The unique Swedish nonprofit sector is characterized by 1) the tradition of popular mass movements in which members are central and the real owners of the organization, 2) large membership and volunteering, but low employment levels, 3) dominance in the fields of culture and recreation, but the relative marginalization in welfare. 3. From feminism to class politics : the rise and decline of women's politics in Reykjavík 1908-1922
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this dissertation is to seek answers to three questions: 1) Why did it take so much longer for women than men to win the vote? 2) Why did it take women so long to be elected in any numbers to national legislatures?, and 3) What has been the political significance of women's entry into national legislatures? The answers are sought by examining an aspect of the development of parties ignored by most political scientists, namely the relationship between women's suffrage, party politics and patriarchal power. An empirical study on Iceland is used to examine this aspect in detail. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The dissertation takes its theoretical departure in the concept of citizenship, conceptualised here both as a status, carrying a wide range of rights, and as a practice, involving both obligations and political participation. The investigation focuses on women in local political parties, trade unions, women's organizations for temperance, philanthropy and the franchise, and women's networks in Örebro. LÄS MER
5. Herraväldets processer : en studie av kvinnors förslitningsskadesituation och könade processer i tre olika slags arbetsorganisationer
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the situation concerning women's musculoskeletal disorders in three different types of workplaces is studied, and differences in women's and men's working conditions which affect this situation are identified. How diffe-rences in working conditions are constructed and reconstructed in and by gen-dered processes is analysed, and this analysis also shows how the work organiza-tions are gendered and gendering.
