  1. 1. Climate Change sensitivity of Photosynthesis and Respiration in Tropical Trees

    Författare :Myriam Mujawamariya; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon dioxide; Climate change; Drought; Elevation gradient; Photosynthesis; Respiration; Tropical montane forest; Tropical trees; Warming;

    Sammanfattning : Tropical climate is getting warmer, with more pronounced dry periods in large areas. The productivity and climate feedbacks of future tropical forests depend on the ability of trees to acclimate their physiological processes, such as photosynthesis and leaf respiration, to these new conditions. 3. 3. Consequences of bushmeat hunting in tropical forests

    Författare :Edu Efiom; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tropical rainforests; bushmeat hunting; primates; seedling recruitment; interseedling competition; community composition; functional traits; ecosystem services; human livelihoods;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis evaluates the effect of bushmeat hunting in southeastern Nigerian rainforests on: 1) adult tree, seedling, and animal community compositions 2) germination and survival among seedlings in association with competition 3) changes in community composition at multiple trophic levels 4) leaf nitrogen concentration (LNC), leaf mass per area (LMA) and stem specific density (SSD) 5) on human reliance on forest resources and rural people use forest resources. Data for the first four evaluations were obtained from surveys, manipulative experiments in seedling plots and collected leaf samples in three pairs of sites with high (hunted sites) and low (protected sites) hunting pressure but with similar adult tree composition. 4. 4. Seagrasses in warming oceans : physiological and biogeochemical responses

    Författare :Rushingisha George; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Teresa Alcoverro Pedrola; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Global warming; greenhouse gas; warming oceans; temperate; tropical; coastal waters; Western Indian Ocean WIO ; tidal variability; seagrass; photosynthesis; respiration; photorespiration; biogeochemical processes; sulphide; methane; nitrous oxide; carbon dioxide; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The exponential increase of atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations over the past 50 years has caused a rise in the global average temperature by more than 1ºC above pre-industrial levels. Ninety-three percent of this heat energy has been absorbed and stored by the oceans, increasing their temperatures, particularly in surface waters. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Analysis and speciation of organic phosphorus in environmental matrices : Development of methods to improve 31P NMR analysis

    Författare :Johan Vestergren; Gröbner Gerhard; Jurgen Schleucher; Ulrik Ilstedt; Per Persson; Reiner Giesler; Benjamin L. Turner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phosphorus; soil; 31P NMR; NaOH EDTA; terrestrial; sulfide; speciation; bioavailability; paramagnetic; humus; boreal; tropical; multi-dimensional; agroforestry; chronosequence; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for life on our planet. It is central in numerous biochemical processes in terrestrial and aqueous ecosystems including food production; and it is the primary growth-limiting nutrient in some of the world’s biomes. LÄS MER
