16. Development and evaluation of a subunit DIVA vaccine against bluetongue virus serotype 8 in cattle
Sammanfattning : Bluetongue virus (BTV) causes the primarily vector-borne bluetongue disease of ruminants, which poses a permanent threat to Europe since new serotypes and strains are frequently introduced. Vaccination of cattle is essential to control BTV outbreaks. LÄS MER
17. Role of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase and Melatonin in Regulation of β-cell Sensitivity to Cytokines
Sammanfattning : The mechanisms of β-cell destruction leading to type 1 diabetes are complex and not yet fully understood, but infiltration of the islets of Langerhans by autoreactive immune cells is believed to be important. Activated macrophages and T-cells may then secrete cytokines and free radicals, which could selectively damage the β-cells. LÄS MER
18. Rewiring ret : PTB-adaptor regulated signaling and cell biology
Sammanfattning : The Ret receptor belongs to a group of transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptors that serve to transduce environmental signals into cellular responses. Upon extracellular ligand activation the receptors dimerize and their structural conformation is altered into one that allows for interaction with proteins in the cell cytosol. LÄS MER
19. Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and potentials for application in fetal cell replacement therapy
Sammanfattning : Fetal cell replacement therapy or in utero hematopoietic cell transplantation (IUHCT) is proposed as a non-myeloablative alternative to bone marrow transplantation (BMT) for a number of inborn immunologic, hematologic and metabolic disorders. IUHCT represents the method through which variable amounts of natural or genetically modified hematopoietic cells can be transferred to the fetal recipient in hope of correcting the disorder and preventing postnatal permanent organ damage. 20. On the role of nitric oxide in bladder cancer and renal cell carcinoma
Sammanfattning : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in tumour biology is unclear. There are conflicting reports in the literature whether NO will promote or inhibit tumour growth. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of NO in bladder cancer and renal cell carcinoma. LÄS MER
