  1. 16. The Foxf2 gene in development and disease

    Författare :Azadeh Reyahi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Foxf2; Pericyte; brain development; stroke;

    Sammanfattning : The Foxf2 gene in development and disease Azadeh Reyahi Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg, Box 462, SE 405 30, Göteborg, Sweden Abstract In this thesis I present our recent data on the involvement and the mechanism of action of the forkhead transcription factor Foxf2 in development of the brain microvasculature, formation of the blood-brain barrier, control of the intestinal stem cell niche, and fusion of the secondary palate. The potential clinical signifi- cance of these findings is strengthened by a correlation between Foxf2 expres- sion and intestinal adenoma formation, and by association between genetic vari- ants in human FOXF2 and incident stroke. 2. 17. Regulation of TGF-β/Smad Signaling Through Smad Interacting Proteins

    Författare :Fumiko Itoh; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Peter ten Dijke; Carlos F. Ibáñez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily members are multi-functional regulators of cell fate. These factors signal by binding to a limited number of highly conserved transmembrane type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. These receptors initiate signals into the cell via the Smad proteins. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Keloids - A fibroproliferative disease

    Författare :Oliver Seifert (Bock); Inger Rosdahl; Mona Ståhle; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; keloid; TGF-beta; SMAD; quality of life; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Keloids are a fibroproliferative disorder of unknown etiology developing in the skin after injury or spontaneously. The aim of this thesis is to gain deeper insight into the role of TGF-β and its signaling pathway proteins, SMADs, in the pathogenesis of keloids and describe the gene expression profile in different keloid sites in the search for potential target genes for future treatment. 4. 19. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth

    Författare :Åsa Schiött; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-b; monocyte; rat; costimulation; Th2; ERK; tumor; TIL; Immunology; serology; Immunologi; transplantation; T-lymphocyte; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER
