26. Development of molecular recognition by rational and combinatorial engineering
Sammanfattning : Combinatorial protein engineering, taking advantage of large libraries of protein variants and powerful selection technology, is a useful strategy for developing affinity proteins for applications in biotechnology and medicine. In this thesis, two small affinity proteins have been subjected to combinatorial protein engineering to improve or redirect the binding. LÄS MER
27. Selection and use of affinity proteins developed by combinatorial engineering
Sammanfattning : In affinity protein biotechnology the selective bindingbetween a chosen protein and an interacting biomolecule isutilized for a variety of applications including bioseparation, detection and therapy. Traditionally, affinity proteinsrecruited for such applications have been derived from naturalproteins or immunoglobulins generated via immunization routes. LÄS MER
28. Functionally-associated target antigens in cancer. Defined by human antibodies and small interfering RNAs
Sammanfattning : Cancer is the collective name for diseases that have one thing in common ? uncontrolled cell growth. The increase in cancer cell proliferation eventually results in tumor formation and, in the worst case, metastatic spread to other organs. Common treatment modalities of cancer include chemotherapy and radiation therapy. LÄS MER
29. In vivo and in vitro evolution of molecular mechanisms - Importance in B cell development and phage display
Sammanfattning : Bone marrow resident hematopoietic stem cells differentiate into all different types of lymphoid populations, there among mature naive B cells expressing IgM and IgD. During the maturation, the B cells are subjected to several steps of selection to ensure proper development of the antigen receptor. LÄS MER
30. Gliadin-Blocking Peptides In vitro assessment of their potential to alleviate celiac disease development
Sammanfattning : This thesis work aimed to investigate the potential of synthetic peptides as agents to block wheat prolamins (gliadins) that trigger the development of symptoms in celiac disease. The first step of this investigation included selection and synthesis of peptides with high affinity to gliadins and assessment of the potential of these so-called blocking peptides to limit gliadin reactivity in vitro.
