  1. 11. Passive Optical Top-of-Rack Interconnect for Data Center Networks

    Författare :Yuxin Cheng; Jiajia Chen; Lena Wosinska; Matteo Fiorani; Qiong Zhang; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optical communications; data center interconnects; MAC protocol; dynamic bandwidth allocation.; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Optical networks offering ultra-high capacity and low energy consumption per bit are considered as a good option to handle the rapidly growing traffic volume inside data center (DCs). However, most of the optical interconnect architectures proposed for DCs so far are mainly focused on the aggregation/core tiers of the data center networks (DCNs), while relying on the conventional top-of-rack (ToR) electronic packet switches (EPS) in the access tier. 2. 12. High-capacity short-reach optical communications

    Författare :Rui Lin; Jiajia Chen; Lena Wosinska; Yu Yu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical communication; optical frequency comb; radio-over-fiber; optical interconnect; fiberoptisk kommunikation; optisk frekvenskams; Radio-över –fiber; passiva optiska interconnects; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The global traffic is experiencing an exponential growth posing severe challenges to the communication networks in terms of capacity. As a future-proof technology fiber communication is widely implemented in different network segments, which can be categorized by transmission distance as long-haul and short-reach. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Short-range Optical Communications using 4-PAM

    Författare :Tamas Lengyel; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Data communication; vertical cavity surface emitting lasers; 4-PAM; IM DD; NRZ OOK; optical interconnects; short-range fiber optic links; multimode fiber; inter-symbol interference; intensity modulation;

    Sammanfattning : As the demand for ever higher throughput short-range optical links is growing, research and industry has shown increased interest in multilevel modulation formats, such as the four leveled pulse amplitude modulation, referred to as 4-PAM. As on-off keying persists to be the choice for low latency applications, such as high performance computing, datacenter operators see 4-PAM as the next format to succeed current OOK-based optical interconnects. 4. 14. High spectral efficiency transmission using optical frequency combs

    Författare :Mikael Mazur; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optical frequency combs; Superchannels; Coherent optical communication;

    Sammanfattning : Modern long-haul optical communication systems transmit data on all available single-mode fiber dimensions, time, polarization, wavelength, phase and amplitude. Powerful digital signal processing and forward error correction has pushed the per-channel throughput towards its theoretical limits and the bandwidth is limited by the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. 5. 15. Reliability versus Cost in Next Generation Optical Access Networks

    Författare :Mozhgan Mahloo; Lena Wosinska; Jiaji Chen; David B Payne; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber access network; passive optical network; reliability; techno-economic study; next generation optical access; network protection; wavelength division multiplexing;

    Sammanfattning : The ever increasing demands of Internet users caused by the introduction of new high bandwidth applications and online services as well as the growing number of users and devices connected to the Internet, bring many challenges for the operators, especially in the last mile section of the network. Next generation access architectures are expected to offer high sustainable bandwidth per user. LÄS MER
