1. Chemical Interactions between Potassium, Nitrogen, Sulfur and Carbon Monoxide in Suspension-Fired Systems
Sammanfattning : Drastic cuts in global CO2 emissions are needed to mitigate global warming and limit the average temperature increase to well below 2ºC. The power generation sector is largely based on fossil fuels and generates a significant share of the global CO2 emissions. LÄS MER
2. Characterization of oxy-fuel flames - their composition, temperature and radiation
Sammanfattning : Oxy-fuel combustion is receiving growing attention as one of the promising CO2 capture technologies in connection to power production. Yet, significant efforts are required in research and development of this combustion process in order to be able to design and optimize a full scale power plant. LÄS MER
3. Development and Application of Laser Techniques for Studying Fuel Dynamics and NO Formation in Engines
Sammanfattning : Development and application of some laser techniques for the study of engine combustion are presented. The investigations mainly cover two aspects: fuel dynamics and formation of NO. LÄS MER
4. Nitric oxide : a marker for inflammation in the lower urinary tract
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this work is to investigate the role of Nitric oxide (NO) as a diagnostic marker for inflammation in the lower urinary tract. NO exerts multiple modulating effects on inflammation and plays a key role in the regulation of immune responses. NO is formed enzymatically in vivo from Larginine by several NO synthases (NOS). 5. Nitric oxide production by the intestinal mucosa during hypoperfusion
Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on the concept that gastrointestinal blood hypoperfusion is a common phenomenon associated with critical illness. Furthermore, the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is proposed to be initiated by gastrointestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction, allowing intestinal luminal contents to penetrate into the tissue and activate a systemic inflammatory response.
