  1. 1. Vision Beyond the Fovea: Evaluation and Stimuli Properties

    Författare :Abinaya Priya Venkataraman; Linda Lundström; Hema Radhakrishnan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peripheral vision; Visual optics; Optical correction; Orientation; Stimulus extent; Moving stimulus; Contrast sensitivity; Visual acuity; Central vision loss; Myopia; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : This research is about evaluating vision in the periphery. Peripheral vision is of fundamental importance in the performance of our everyday activities. The aim of this thesis is to develop methods suitable for the evaluation of peripheral vision and to assess how different visual functions vary across the visual field. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Functional aspects of tactile directional sensibility

    Författare :Helena Backlund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Human; directional sensibility; hairy skin; hemispherectomy; postural control; glabrous skin; fMRI; psychophysics;

    Sammanfattning : Tactile directional sensibility, i.e. the ability to tell the movement direction of a moving tactile stimulus, depends on the parallel processing of spatiotemporal information and information about changes in the pattern of skin tension. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Infants’ Knowledge of Occluded Objects: Evidence of Early Spatiotemporal Representations

    Författare :Gustaf Gredebäck; Claes von Hofsten; Janette Atkinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; infants; occlusion; gaze; object representations; temporal; spatial; associative rule; extrapolation; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis demonstrates that infants represent temporarily non-visible, or occluded, objects. From 4 months of age, infants could accurately predict the reappearance of a moving object after 660 ms of non visibility; indicating accurate spatiotemporal representations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dynamic mechanical allodynia in peripheral neuropathic pain : psychological observations

    Författare :Monika Samuelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dynamic mechanical allodynia; Brush-evoked allodynia; Brush-evoked pain; Neuropathic pain; Pain descriptors; Repeatability; Human pain model; Capsaicin; Psychophysical observations;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aim: Pain due to a light moving mechanical stimulus, dynamic mechanical allodynia, is a protruding symptom/sign in subgroups of patients with peripheral neuropathic pain and frequently as troublesome as spontaneous ongoing pain. The objective of this thesis was to survey psychophysical details of dynamic mechanical allodynia using a novel semi-quantitative method. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Visuo-motor performance in children visually impaired due to fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS)

    Författare :Kristina Gummel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Purpose: To investigate the ophthalmological characteristics and to evaluate the magnocellular function in Russian orphanage children with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). Methods: In the study 100 children aged 10-16 from Russian (St Petersburg) orphanages were examined: 50 with FAS and 50 control children. LÄS MER
