1. Development of an adductomic approach to identify electrophiles in vivo through their hemoglobin adducts
Sammanfattning : Humans are exposed to electrophilically reactive compounds, both formed endogenously and from exogenous exposure. Such compounds could react and form stable reaction products, adducts, at nucleophilic sites in proteins and DNA. LÄS MER
2. Adaptive Immunity in Cardiovascular Disease
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis, thickening of the major arteries, is a chronic disease leading to cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, both affecting millions worldwide. T-cells and antibodies have been implicated in atherosclerosis. LÄS MER
3. Aldehyde toxicity in human oral epithelium
Sammanfattning : Human oral epithelium is an established target for aldehyde toxicity, including from usage of tobacco, intake of foods and fluids, leaching of dental materials, and from mouth inhalation of aldehydes in the work environment. Following establishment of culture/exposure protocols for oral cell cultures, toxicity mechanisms and risk of malignant transformation from aldehyde exposure was investigated, including the metabolic defense offered by alcohol dehydrogenase 3 (ADH3) against formaldehyde toxicity. 4. Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase and vascular complications in diabetes mellitus : Biochemical and molecular aspects
Sammanfattning : Plasma activity of the enzyme semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO; EC.1.4.3. LÄS MER
5. Microphysiometry in the evaluation of cytotoxic drugs with special emphasis on the novel cyanoguanidine CHS 828
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the use of a new technology, the Cytosensor® microphysiometer, in the in vitro evaluation of cytotoxic drugs, using the lymphoma cell line U-937 GTB and primary cultures of tumour cells from patients as model systems. The method was specifically applied to study the metabolic effects of the novel cyanoguanidine N-(6-(4-chlorophenoxy)hexyl)-N’-cyano-N’’-4-pyridylguanidine, CHS 828, currently in phase I/II clinical trials.
