1. Acute Occlusion of the Superior Mesenteric Artery : Diagnosis and treatment
Sammanfattning : Acute occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) is a condition associated with high mortality and morbidity. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for acute SMA occlusion. LÄS MER
2. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm : Epidemiological and Health Economic Aspects
Sammanfattning : Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common disease that is life threatening when rupture occurs. The aims of this thesis were to study (I) the long-term survival after AAA repair, (II) the cost of repair with open (OR) and endovascular (EVAR) technique, (III) the effect of different statistical methods on interpretation of cost data, (IV) the prevalence of the disease among patients with suspected arterial disease referred to the vascular laboratory, and (V) the cost-effectiveness of selective high-risk screening. 3. On Surgical Treatment of Aortic Pathology
Sammanfattning : The use of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms has advanced from a premature characterization as a “failed experiment” in early 2000 to the predominant modern method of treatment. Technology has accommodated initial shortcomings, but it has also led to expansions in the treatment of ruptured aneurysms and complex aortic pathologies. LÄS MER
4. Popliteal Artery Aneurysms : - epidemiology, treatment and results
Sammanfattning : Popliteal aneurysms (PA) are limb threatening, since the aneurysm thrombose and emboli from the aneurysm sac occlude the distal vessels, resulting in chronic or acute limb ischaemia. Open surgical repair (OSR) has been challenged by endovascular repair (ER), a minimal invasive technique. LÄS MER
5. Abdominal compartment syndrome and colonic ischaemia after abdominal aortic aneurysm repair in the endovascular era
Sammanfattning : Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (ACS) and colonic ischaemia (CI) are serious and potentially lethal complications after open (OSR) and endovascular repair (EVAR) of ruptured (rAAA) and intact (iAAA) abdominal aortic aneurysms. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the incidence, outcome, and risk factors associated with ACS (Papers I-III) and to evaluate extraluminal colonic tonometry for postoperative surveillance of colonic perfusion (Paper IV).
