  1. 21. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study

    Författare :Leif Nordang; Sten Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; round window membrane; pseudomonas exotoxin; auditory brainstem response; hearing loss; endolymphatic sac; inner ear immunology; glutamate; nitric oxide inhibitor; glucocorticoid.; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death. 2. 22. Dosimetry of Local Radio Frequency Exposure

    Författare :Rudolf Kopecky; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; subgridding; FDTD; rats; head; SAR; dosimetry; inner ear labyrinth; mobile phone;

    Sammanfattning : Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) is a popularcomputational electrodynamics modelling technique. It has been widelyused, from radar cross section computations through electromagneticcompatibility investigations to modelling of electromagnetic exposurein biological tissues. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Pitch, loudness and frequency selectivity in low-frequency hearing loss

    Författare :Jonas Brännström; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; frequency coding; Cochlea; frequency selectivity; hearing fluctuation; inner ear pressure; long-term measurement; Ménière s disease; low-frequency hearing loss; loudness; pitch.;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with Ménière's disease and cochlear hydrops show fluctuating low-frequency hearing loss (FLFHL). At present these changes are followed as patients' subjective reports and occasional measurements. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Effects of Specific Cochlear Pathologies on the Auditory Functions : Modelling, Simulations and Clinical Implications

    Författare :Amin G. Saremi; Stefan Stenfelt; Steve Elliott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Auditory modeling; cochlear mechanics; sensorineural hearing impairment; age-related hearing loss; noise-induced hearing loss; inner ear pathologies;

    Sammanfattning : A hearing impairment is primarily diagnosed by measuring the hearing thresholds at a range of auditory frequencies (air-conduction audiometry). Although this clinical procedure is simple, affordable, reliable and fast, it does not offer differential information about origins of the hearing impairment. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Characterization of cochlear degeneration in the inner ear of the German waltzing guinea pig : a morphological, cellular, and molecular study

    Författare :Zhe Jin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cochlea; Deafness; Embryonic development; Inner ear; Melanocyte; Phenotype; Recessive genes; Recycling; Stria vascularis.;

    Sammanfattning : The German waltzing guinea pig is a new strain of animals with yet unknown gene mutation(s) displaying recessively inherited cochleovestibular impairment. The homozygous animals (gw/gw) are deaf already at birth and display Wpical waltzing behavior throughout life. LÄS MER
