1. In-Between: Contemporary Art in Australia. Cross-culture, Contemporaneity, Globalization
Sammanfattning : This study emerges from the question: what is contemporary art, and mainly what criteria constitute contemporary art in a globalized art world in general? Thus, the focus of this dissertation is on the postcolonial context of Australia and the fact that the contemporary art scene in Australia is divided into Australian and Aboriginal art respectively. This is a division originating from the colonization of Australia that began in the 1770’s, resulting in an Australian art descending from a Western art practice, where there is further focus on two categories within this art. 2. Writing-Weaving Sámi Feminisms : Stories and Conversations
Sammanfattning : This dissertation explores, illuminates, and analyses Sámi feminist knowledges, conceptualised as diverse and fluid feminist knowledges that both arise within and create Sámi realities. Centrally, it contributes to and exemplifies Sámi inquiry and conversations where different people continuously create and re-create Sámi feminisms in various contexts. LÄS MER
3. Ambaricho and Shonkolla. From Local Independent Church to the Evangelical Mainstream in Ethiopia. The Origins of the Mekane Yesus Church in Kambata Hadiya
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to the scholarly debate on how African Independent Churches (AICs) relate to outside partners. It is a case study from the perspective of the periphery of Ethiopia, which explains the origins of the Mekane Yesus Church in Kambata Hadiya The diachronic structure of the study with a focus from 1944 to 1975 highlights how a group of Christians reacted to cultural pressure and formed a local independent church, the Kambata Evangelical Church 2 (KEC-2). Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with the cinematographic representations of the interrelations between identity and space in a corpus conformed by three films: The Milk of Sorrow by Claudia Llosa (Peru, 2009); Southern District by Carlos Valdivia (Bolivia, 2009) and Beauty by Daniela Seggiaro (Argentina, 2012). The aim of the present work is to examine how ethnic-cultural identities –indigenous and ‘criolla’– are shaped in relation to the represented spaces: landscapes, houses, gardens and the courtyard. 5. Non-indigenous zooplankton : the role of predatory cladocerans and of copepods in trophic dynamics
Sammanfattning : Human-mediated introductions of non-indigenous species now threaten to homogenize the biota of the Globe, causing huge economic and ecological damage. This thesis studies the ecological role of 3 invasive planktonic crustaceans, the omnivorous copepod Acartia tonsa (western Atlantic and Indo-Pacific) and the predatory cladocerans, Cercopagis pengoi (Ponto-Caspian) and Bythotrephes longimanus (Eurasian).
