6. Changes in bone mass and skeletal structure in the postmenopausal period
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate long-term changes in bone mass and skeletal structure in the forearm in the peri- and postmenopausal period. 156 premenopausal women, at baseline aged 48 years, not taking medications and without disease processes known to interfere with bone metabolism, were followed through menopause by measurements of bone mass and skeletal structure at the cortical site of the distal radius by single photon absorptiometry, on average every second year until age 72. 7. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. LÄS MER
8. En studie av prisförhandlingar vid företagsförvärv
Sammanfattning : Scholars within the Process school assume that cognitive and motivational aspects within the decision and integration processes may systematically effect the outcome of mergers and acquisitions. More specifically, it has been suggested that decision makers use heuristics for simplifying information processing which may introduce bias. LÄS MER
9. Hormone-sensitive lipase: Molecular analyses of the human gene; structural and evolutionary aspects on expression, alternative splicing and cold adaptation
Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is a key enzyme in adipose tissue that hydrolyses stored fat (triacylglycerol). The activity of HSL is under strict hormonal and neural control. LÄS MER
10. Position Sensitive Detectors : Device Technology and Applications in Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the development, processing and characterization of position sensitive detectors and, in addition, to the development of compact and cost effective spectrometers. Position sensitive detectors are used to measure, with great accuracy and speed, the position of a light spot incident on the surface. LÄS MER
