  1. 1. Beta cell function in autoimmune diabetes in young adults

    Författare :Carina Törn; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ketoacidosis; insulin treatment; prognostic factors; C-peptide; type 2; type 1; IA-2A; ICA; GADA; IAA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results from a study of the first four years of diabetes in 879 patients aged 15-34 years at diagnosis. The aims of this study were to compare clinical classification with the presence of autoantibodies, to study the natural course of beta cell function during the first years of disease and to define predictive factors for the remaining beta cell function after diagnosis. 2. 2. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Henrik Borg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Epidemiology of diabetes in a well defined population in Sweden: the Skaraborg Diabetes Registry

    Författare :Bo Berger; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; IA-2A; GADA; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; mortality; prevalence; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Public health; incidence; epidemiology; epidemiologi; sekretion; Folkhälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Time trends in prevalence, incidence and mortality was followed in 15000 diabetic patients in 1991?2005. Clinical findings, C-peptide protocols, and islet antibodies were compared in their ability to distinguish type 1 from type 2 diabetes, and factors associated with the prognosis of diabetes were explored. 4. 4. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus- Future risk for mother and child

    Författare :Charlotta Nilsson; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gestational Diabetes Mellitus; autoantibody; GADA; ZnT8A; C-peptide; overweight; offspring;

    Sammanfattning : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) occurs as a complication in 2% of all pregnancies in Sweden. Women with GDM have a substantial risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life, but the risk of developing type 1 diabetes is also increased. GDM increases the risk for macrosomia and caesarean delivery. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Autoantibodies as markers of beta-cell autoimmunity in children

    Författare :Hanna Holmberg; Johnny Ludvigsson; Mona Landin-Olsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Autoantibodies; Beta-cell autoimmunity; Children; Breast-feeding; HLA haplotypes; Insulin gene; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic disease caused by destruction of the insulin producing beta-cells in the pancreas. The incidence of T1D has increased rapidly, especially in the Western world and among young children. LÄS MER
